dauntlcssly :: FILE//: to build a home
The war was over, and it had been over, for a year now. The world seemed like a much brighter place. And mankind was able to celebrate their way into 2018 without the threat of Judgement Day looming over their shoulders. Of course, Kyle still had nightmares, some nights he or Sarah woke up screaming incoherently while Pops nearly broke down the door to see what the problem was.
But things were good, no...they were GREAT. Kyle had a home, a real home again. And someone he LOVED deeply. Sarah was everything he could have imagined, and more. She was the only woman he could ever see himself being with.
And of course he had known that from day one.
Wiping his forehead with the back of his sleeve, Kyle’s arm dropped to his side as he took a few breaths and finished the last of the cup of water he had brought out for himself. He was building a chicken coop. Because Kyle had refused to buy any houses in the city, they were going to get a farm house like the one he had grown up in. And they did, of course it was only half an hour out from the major city but it was still good enough for Kyle.
He loved building things from scratch, how tactile it was. The best part was seeing the finished product and knowing he had done it himself. Turning to go in for more water, as the day was hot, he saw Sarah walking outside probably to make sure nothing had fallen in the construction process and killed him.
“I’m still alive, for now,” he joked, wrapping an arm around her and kissing the top of her head softly.
