Don Ameche with Dave Chasen at Chasen’s
Dave Chasen, Joe Cook, and Joe Howard in Rain or Shine (1930). All three were in the original stage production. Dave was born in Odessa, Ukraine, and had three more credits after this, his first, in 1935 and 36. Dave started in entertainment as a vaudeville stooge. After his film career he opened a Hollywood restaurant, Chasen's, where Ronald Reagan proposed to Nancy in 1952. Carol Burnett took her weekly tv guests there after taping each show. It was Alfred Hitchcock's favorite restaurant. It started as a barbeque shack, but he went upscale in Beverly Hills in 1940. The restaurant closed in 1995.
