“I have always admired the Tarot as a mysterious tool to guide emotional clarity. I tried with this piece to playfully add my own touch with the materials at hand. While veering somewhat from the traditional symbolism, I hope that I have captured some of the essensial essence of The Tower while perhaps opening some other interesting avenues for the quirent to explore.”

Yesterday Karine Polwart and Dave Milligan’s album Still as Your Sleeping was released. It feels like a sibling of What News; I’ll certainly be listening to it some more. And it includes this version of The Old Men of the Shells. I think Karine Polwart has really got inside the song, and also includes a piano arrangement of part of the original Old Men of the Shells pibroch tune from which Alasdair took the song’s title.
