"I take it you're here on work, then?" Dolley took a sip of her wine, an eyebrow raised. (Y/N was rather impressed that the glass hadn't sloshed all down her dress, what with Dolley immediately ambushing her upon entering her line of vision.)

Y/N sighed. "I always seem to be. Not even allowed to get drunk at these events. How fair is that?" The complaint held little true bitterness, though, with the playful glint in her eyes.

Dolley looked indignant on her behalf. "You poor thing; they've really put you through the wringer, huh?"

"You don't know the half of it." Y/N's mock exhaustion provoked a laugh from Dolley, who pursed her lips, ultimately shrugging.

"You did gain me from it though." Her matter-of-fact tone made Y/N roll her eyes. "Count your blessings, Y/N."

"Really. I can be so ungrateful." She shook her head, upholding her exasperated facade, though when a grin split through Dolley's mask of disappointment, Y/N couldn't help the corners of her lips quirking up.

"What's tonight's article about, anyway? A critique of the baked brie? 'Thomas Jefferson Doesn't Know How to Throw a Party: An Exposé'?"

i think the main reason i like this is bc dolley’s my only character who’s like really my own, and i feel like this lil snippet captures her well :)

ooo usually i write everything from start to finish, but i frequently can’t resist going ahead and writing some of the scenes im esp hype abt, even if i end up having to delete them :(

"If I give you these cookies, you gotta eat some carrots for me, too, mama. Can't have these cute teeth falling out."

Lydia frowned, " Not if I brush them with gummy toothpaste, yum!" She brightened up again.

"Who are you sassing? You hear me, Dia? Carrots." Rafa put Lydia down and she ran to the dining table and sat patiently swinging her legs. He took the cookies out of the oven. Then he heated up macaroni and cheese and carrots and set the meal before her.

I am really proud of this exchange I wrote in a single dad! Rafa drabble because I feel like I somewhat got his characterization together(in this moment) and that it paired perfectly with the sweet loveable innocence of his daughter! Overall the whole fic is so cute. This is a dynamic to explore and we see that it's like father like daughter: they're both full of sass and wit. Linked in my masterlist!!
