Elia Santini deserved better.
So I went on watching season 4 of Skam Italia and one of the first things they show is a drunk Elia confessing his love to Sana. I read that lots of people found it funny ... I felt that Elia was being so cute and the way he looked at Sana was so warm, and me being in love with Elia just — ugh, I loved it, even though I knew nothing would happen. I mean ... ‘Everyone is stupid compared to you.’ Ne vogliamo parlare?
We don’t see Elia anymore for a while and when we do (at the party), he is still in love with Sana and tries to get her to go out with him, he’s even doing research. Found it a bit like they were portraying him to be a bit stupid, when it never came across like that in the previous seasons... so I felt sad because he was really trying and because it felt stupid, I did not know where that was going. In addition, at the fight she is there crying and - isn’t he in love with her? Why doesn’t he stay and comfort her? Why doesn’t he at least say something...? I don’t know, it felt a bit forced.
Then we see once again how he looks at her, so warm and full of respect, and everyone teases him for this, he acts all shy and ‘oh shut up’. However we know that Sana thinks that for him is all a stupid joke, and she feels uncomfortable. Which I understand, but was he really doing it as a joke? It felt so real to me! I know she felt like everyone was attacking her, but still Elia didn’t seem like he wanted to joke about that. Whatever.
Then, at the Eid, we see him look at her with a broken heart when she smiles at Malik’s messages, it looks like he really wants to talk to her but doesn’t have the courage to see her so serious, saying ‘no’. I understand. And by that point I was confused as fuck because they gave him this storyline but how the fuck were they going to end it? Like, Sana was with Malik right? And she was going to have that storyline no mater what so what was the point?
At the last second, ‘oh my god Emma Covitti was undecided between me and Martino’ and yay, he is not in love with Sana anymore. What? It was such a sudden shift that made the entire storyline purposeless, meaningless, campata per aria. And I actually believed that he was in love and now I don’t know, maybe he was really joking but... I don’t think he would do that, it didn’t feel like he was making fun of her, it felt like he respected her and wanted to get to know her for real, because he thinks she is so smart and charming. But no, it went away in 0.2 seconds. Does anyone agree with me or am I the only one who didn’t find it funny? Like the whole season was fucking awesome and then Elia is just there existing with a crush on Sana. What?
Edit: I fixed it a bit, because I really care about this.
Also, I would like to add that they could’ve worked on his relationship with Emma from the beginning, or with Filo, anything but make him have this pointless crush that just destroyed the character’s integrity.
