Davey Grant chokes out Raphael Assuncao in the 3rd round

I’m angry. First, props to Grant. Was down 0-2 going into round 3 and went out there to kill Assuncao. And he hurt him badly right off the bat. To Assuncao’s credit, he got the takedown. But Grant grabbed the cage twice to defend and got a point taken. But instead of restarting from the position, the ref stood them up. Grant immediately hurt Assuncao with a spinning backfist. Assuncao shot in to defend himself but ended up in an inverted triangle and went out. If I’m Assuncao and the team, I’m pissed.

There’s something to be said that this has been the fatal flaw for Assuncao. You can neutralize all you want, but you’re always walking that line when you don’t really push yourself on your opponents.

Assuncao retires after the loss.

Davey Grant takes UD over Adrian Luna Martinetti in war

Great fight! 40 year old Davey Grant is just out there putting together professional ass fights. Just really smart combination punching. Great use of the kicks to the upper thigh and calf. Attacking all three levels to throw off Martinetti's attempted counters in the pocket. And just fighting at an insane pace for a man who is again 40 years old. Props to Martinetti who came forward for all 15 minutes of this fight. Against a less experienced opponent, I could totally see him drowning them. But Grant is a cool customer.
