Randomly remembered Dinotopia existed, and was that series actually good? I remember loving them as a kid and the art is obviously incredible, but was the plot really the Victorian man washes up on an island and has to learn how to view natives as people and how to integrate into and respect their way of life? Like, that was what happened, right? And the society of dinotopia did explicitly walk the line of “yes, we live in harmony together but also there are some cultural differences that remain and we respect that,” right? And the man starts in a rural area and originally assumes the primitive society only has access to basic technology before he discovers that there’s actually a whole bunch of cities, but people are allowed to do whatever they choose to for a living and many simply want to live out in the wilds, right? And this complicated society of different cultures manages to get on in near-perfect harmony, to the point where the only other unhappy person we meet is the other castaway who refuses to view the dinosaurs as equally sentient creatures deserving of life, right? These books were awesome, right?
