Not Ashamed to Be Yours: The Honor of God in the Dreams of His People

God is most honored in us when we are most desirous of him and the future he promises with him.

As it is, they desire a better country, that is, a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for he has prepared for them a city. (Hebrews 11:16)

I know of nowhere else in Scripture that speaks so explicitly about God not being ashamed.

Preaching the gospel to ourselves is a habit of grace that is both proactive and reactive. 

It’s reactive as we encounter temptation and frustration and seek to restock in the moment, or as we reflect back on our sin and circumstances and try to evaluate them with a gospel lens. 

But it’s also proactive. We go on the offensive when we feed our souls in some regular rhythm before the events and tasks and disappointments of daily life begin streaming our way.

How to Get Strong in God

You get weary. You get weak. You get lonely. In such times, how can you strengthen yourself in your Lord?

David was not the first great man in Israel to be threatened with stoning. Nor would he be the last.
