Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe Pay Tribute to the Allman Brothers Band
Over the past two decades, funk bands have come and funk bands have gone, with few having the staying power of Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe. There’s a reason for that, and it’s the same reason that Denson has been touring with the Rolling Stones, playing saxophone for several years. That reason, of course, is Denson himself, a diesel engine of groove, impervious to the numbers on the odometer, and a bandleader whose bands can get you moving like few others. KDTU have made many visits to NYC over the years, mixing it up in different ways, but never failing to leave a party in their wake. This weekend, Denson and his band—and some very special guests—bring their veteran prowess to Webster Hall on Saturday night with their Eat a Bunch of Peaches show, a hybrid of their boogie-ready funk and the equally road-tested songbook of the Allman Brothers Band. If groovy Allmans delivered by the best in the biz on a Saturday night sounds what-could-be-better irresistible—and it should—put on your dancing shoes and get yourself to Webster Hall. —A.
