“Wait”
(A Poem for Opportunity)
We waited so long We’d hoped we’d hear your song But the silence still reigns There are no happy refrains
We have to move on now Though we’re not quite sure how But we’ll remember you, dear Your memories will be near
You showed us so much Of wonder, life, and such We were so proud of your deeds Waiting, excited for your feeds
But now we say farewell It’s difficult, you can tell And some will say you died That your curious mind has been fried
But I know your mind will keep You’re not dead, just asleep And someday soon, if you wait If we don’t give in to hate
We’ll find our way to you If we hold fast and true To the lessons you taught us all Of how to stay strong and not fall
And then at last, beneath the Sun We’ll cross that distant horizon If you’ll only wait on that dusty sea For us to seize the Opportunity
