1. Magic Hour (2004)

3. Ten Silhouettes (2005)

• Materials: Perspex, steel shelving, commercial lightboxes, neon tubing, warehouse dollies, acrylics, and plastics

• Description: This piece features ten glowing, colorful silhouettes, each backlit to create bold and striking outlines. The silhouettes, which vary in shape, focus on the contrast between the solid forms and the colored light, offering a visual exploration of how light and shadow interact to transform simple shapes into compelling figures.

4. Brighton Palermo Remix (2012)

• Description: Drawing inspiration from the vibrant streets of Brighton and Palermo, this work blends elements from both locations into an energetic collection of colorful lights and materials. The installation brings together Batchelor’s signature use of neon and other bold colors, capturing the lively, dynamic atmosphere of urban environments.

5. Big Rock Candy Fountain (2010)

• Materials: Perspex, steel, and light

• Description: This is a playful and whimsical towering installation, that mimics a fountain featuring a cluster of oversized, brightly colored objects that resemble candy. The piece is a celebration of color and scale, inviting viewers to engage with the visual spectacle and enjoy the sense of fun it creates, turning everyday objects into larger-than-life wonders.

Colour belongs both to the arts and to the sciences, both to high culture and popular culture,  both to theory and to story telling. Within the arts vivid accounts of colour occur as much in literature as they do in the remarks of painters, sculptors and filmmakers. Colour has been addressed or ignored both by modernists and postmodernists; those who loathe colour have as much to say about it as those who love it. Colour is truly fluid: it spills over subjects and seeps between disciplines; and no one area can mop it up and claim a privileged or proprietorial relationship with the subject.
