I found an amazing thing in the store today and couldn't wait to share it with you.
There is a David Bowie tarot set!!!
The artwork is by Davide De Angelis, inspired by the artworks he created for David Bowie. The box itself is amazing. The starman lightning bolt is prominent and where the box opens. I don't know why but I find this just perfect and very unique.
I have had a look at the cards and they look beautiful. I haven't had a chance to spend any time with the deck, however, so I haven't had a close look yet.
I know several people will be very excited by this deck, like I am, so I wanted to share my first impressions with you now.
The box is unique and the art is beautiful, with a 192 page full color accompanying book.
The cards seem to be on a decently thick stock. Close to a basic set of playing cards.
They have no border outside of a black title bar at the bottom of the card.
The cards are not edged. I will probably add a black edge to mine.
The back design is technically not reversible. Yet, at the same time, it is. There is a set orientation to the artwork but it is easily seen. At a glance, you won't be able to tell.
Some cards have been renamed; the fool is now the sacred clown, the alchemist is the starman, etc. I haven't read the book yet to find out the reasoning but this doesn't personally bother me.
So that's my first impression. Even if these cards do not read well for me, I am glad to own them. They are a beautiful set and I am excited to put them to use.
