Technology - An epidemic of overwhelm
The amount of information available to a single person increased daily, not only do we not process it properly but we also don't memorise it properly. in this a age of technology we maintain distracted and focus is hard to come by when distractions are a click away. Technology is changing at maximum speed and humanity is failing to catch up; the vast amount of information provided has overwhelmed us all and overused our focus.
I read somewhere that The New York Times on Sunday contains more information than the average 18th century French Nobleman learned in his lifetime (now, if only I could remember where I read that...) - David Rock
The smart phones, tablets and laptops that we use everyday are not only what keeps us productive but they also distract us from our tasks or focus, we can change focus ten times an hour (one study showed people in offices did so as much as 20 times an hour), and your productive thinking time is only a fraction of that.
Distractions are everywhere. And with the always-on technologies of today, they take a heavy toll on productivity. -David Rock
Technology is great and getting greater by the day, but we have try maintain our focus on necessary tasks at hand as distracting technology will drain our mind and use up our mental energy such as glucose and other metabolic resources.
Less energy equals less capacity to understand, decide, recall, memorize, and inhibit.- David Rock
Over the years Studies have shown that each task you do tends to make you less effective at the next task, and this is especially true for high-energy tasks like self control and decision making So distractions really take their toll on your performance.
Technology is useful and i don't discourage the use of it, but only warn of its bad side.
The smarter our smart phones get the less we have to think, and the dumper we feel. - Ali
