I love this quote from Davydov's memoirs, but it's too short to post it separately, so here it goes:
On the 22-nd of October on the capture of Vyazma by general Miloradovich, his adjutant and lieutenant of Kavalergardsky regiment Kiselyov (the one that's general-adjutant now) found among the scattered papers one of the posters that were sent to the armies situated or going through the Smolensk province by general Baraguey d'Hilliers in his team, and gifted it to me. In this poster my appearance was described with the strict order to catch and shoot me; I've kept it as the best certificate of my actions at Vyazma, but, unfortunately, lost it during the campaign of 1813 and 1814
I don't know why, but I love this little story. I mean, Davydov's one and only reaction in the memoirs to the fact, that Frenchmen officially ordered to the whole armies to shoot him without judgement, is pride and happiness and keeping the poster as some sort of award! It's just funny imho. I wouldn't be surprised if after this he came to his band running and shouting "Guys, guess what?! Frenchmen finally recognised me!"
You're nobody 'till somebody wants you dead!

Just a little moment, but have you ever noticed before, that Davydov's hair has a white streak, which noone ever really mentions, but it's still present on practically all portraits?
I mean, it's not very noticeable on his most famous portrait. (I actually missed that, during my beginning of the Napoleonics)
But here... How come that noone, including Denis himself, really talks of that??? This streak of hair is so cool looking
It didn't really register it in my mind as I just drew him with only brown hair for that wanted poster image.
But yeah that seems like something worth commenting on.
