Aria nodded as she listened to what he said and sighed a bit as he left. She wanted him to stay longer, but there were other things that needed to be checked on in the waking world.
In the real world Aria was curled up in a ball, pressed to Ash’s side.
Waking up from the dreamscape was completely different than waking up from sleeping, at least it was for Ash. He closed his eyes in the dreamscape, and opened them, fully alert in the waking world. Only to find a small, warm body next to his on the chair he had dozed off in. He looked down, brushing Aria’s black hair away from her face, running a finger over her cheek. As much as he wanted to just stay here like this, he knew she’d get more rest in a bed. He picked her up, as though she weighed nothing and carried her back to the bed, pulling the covers up over her so she’d stay warm.
He brushed Dusk’s mind, only to find her sleep, too exhausted for him to even pull into the dreamscape to talk to. Lhorcan could do it, but he’d be damned if he was going to ask his brother for a favor right now. Midnight, though....he was awake. He reached out and touched his mind, ‘Aria’s with me and safe right now. Is Dusk alright?’
Aurum grit his teeth, clenching his fists. Arawn was clearly provoking him on purpose. He wouldn’t give in to what the older god wanted. “I suppose I just have a different approach compared to most.”
Aria thought over it for a bit before shaking her head. “This is all too much. Going back there will make it worse…” She looked at him in the eyes and froze a bit. He was so close. Her heart started beating faster and her cheeks warmed up. Gods, he was close…she could just lean in, but she didn’t. He might not want it. She wouldn’t push that on him without him showing he wanted it, and it was hard to think.
“Oh, no, on the contrary. There are a plethora of evil beings that would employ that very method, holding an innocent being against their will. I just found it rather barbaric and unwarranted. But I can see where you’d be successful with such ... ruthless methods.”
The first time he kissed her had been done out of near desperation. A way to shock her out of her killing rage. It had worked, but... left Ash with regrets. He cupped her cheek, tilting her face up as he moved slowly, giving her ample time to pull away or say no. When she didn’t, he brushed a soft kiss over her lips, pulling away to look in her eyes, searching them for a sign of what she felt.
He hummed a bit in thought. “I’m not picky. I take what I can get. But the best offer besides a year of her life or sex” he gave her a pointed look as he said the word “would be a shrine. It’s one of the few things that I don’t have.”
Dusk grit her teeth, unable to stop the spread of the blush that painted her face up to the delicate points of her ears, but she did not look away or drop her gaze. “A shrine, then, for answers to all her questions. Agreed?”
Aria scoffed slightly. “No, he’s my best customer and the only reason I’ve been in business! I just followed the two to see what they were up to.” She sighed. “And then once we got back to my place…from there it all went downhill.” She closed her eyes. She didn’t want to talk about how everything changed, but if he asked, she would tell.
Lhorcan could sense her reluctance in her tone and in her body language, so he changed the subject. “I suppose then, if we are indeed going to share, we should try to get to know one another.... Why a magic shop?” She clearly radiated power now, but he could only assume that growing up human, she didn’t have any idea of her powers.
Phantom stared after her before slumping on the floor. He hated Anti. Much more now that he made him hurt both his brother and Dusk. He slammed his fist onto the floor, closing his eyes. “Dammit…”
Natemare didn’t look up as he heard the door creak open, finishing bandaging his back up as best he could. He could tell it was Dusk though. “How did it go?” He had a sad and pained tone in his voice as he spoke.
Dusk didn’t say anything, not at first, as she took the bandage from Mare and healed the worst of the damage, then cleaned his back up. “He doesn’t remember anything.” That traitorous voice whispered ‘or so he says....’ Dusk tried to ignore it, knowing this is what Anti wanted, to drive a wedge between them all. And it was working. “What happened?”
“One would argue that an attribute cannot invite, simply alert someone to its existence. If that. Surely there is more chaos somewhere…. anywhere else that you could … be.” There was a certain glitch demon Ash would happily point him in the direction of.
Dusk was about to answer Midnight when a presence came over her. A command from her god, given as a thinly veiled request. How could she say no? Her aura faded, guttered then flared black as she rose. She had enough control still to make sure to put Midnight in the chair, not just dump him unceremoniously to the floor. And the she walked out without a word, heading to Aria’s room.
When Dusk opened the door, Ash took one look at her and swore softly under his breath. If the black aura around her didn’t give it away, the deep, echoing baritone voice coming out of her mouth did. “To what do we owe this… unexpected pleasure, Aurum?”
He still didn’t give any response, his eyes flickering between her eyes and her hand.
Midnight hesitated before sighing. “I guess…”
“Oh.....Kam....” She squeezed his hand. Dusk knew Ash was ....furious at Kam, and not without reason, but it still came down to the fact that Kam was very young, and just trying to survive. “Will you please try to eat...or just talk to me?” At least if he opened out and got it all out, it wouldn’t be festering inside him.
Ash pet down Midnight’s back, “If she can’t, you’re no worse off...” But if she could, it would make a huge difference for both Midnight and Aria. Perhaps Phantom as well....
Aria looked at it and smiled, taking them from her gratefully. “Thank you, Dusk.” She started towards the bathroom again, her wings tucked tightly against her back so they didn’t drag.
Midnight nodded. “Milk and meat. I’ll be fine, no need to get Dusk. But…can you thank her for healing my arm for me?” He didn’t elaborate as he settled himself in. He had to change to his feline form or he would have to continue putting small amounts of magic into staying human. “Put the milk in a bowl, please.”
Dusk watched her head to the bathroom, “Aria....if you need anything. Need any ...help, I’m here, alright. Wet wings are heavy, so be careful and don’t strain yourself.”
“I’ll be right back with it.” Ash headed off, passing Dusk in the hallway, “Can you check on Kam and War. I think they’d be more comfortable with you. Also, Midnight says thank you for healing his arm. He seems to be moving around fine, but you may want to check on him later.” He knew Midnight had said he didn’t need Dusk, but... he also knew his sister seemed fond of him.
Dusk nodded, “Once Aria is settled, I’ll go check on them.” She smiled when Ash mentioned Midnight, making a note to see how he was doing later.
Ash returned with a plate of meat he’d cut into small, bite sized pieces and a bowl of warmed milk. Setting both down where Midnight could easily get to them. “Anything else you need?”
