Aspis had noticed Lieutenant Webster frequenting the engineering wing, but hadn’t paid it much attention at first. There were any number of reasons that a member of Intel would need to stop by, but... maybe not this often. Especially since it seemed to always be hanging around Commander Avianna’s office.

Still, she hadn’t spent too much time considering it until the little interaction that happened during the Maverick Hunter visit had exposed a new twist. Dax had tried to detour away from an efficient route so he could stop by the Commander’s office to ask her something he should already know.

A brief review of logs and some helpful input from Aubrey laid things out in a much starker view: Dax was spending a lot more time in Engineering than she’d noticed.

So now Aspis was at the door to the Lieutenant’s quarters, knocking at the door to see if he was in and get some answers.

Close to the Sun (Dax Webster)

A soft refreshing breeze swept through the open balcony of the white walled villa, overlooking the sea to the west as the Mediterranean sun hung hot and overbearing in the air.

A rectangular blue pool bubbled away down on the yard below, overlooking a vineyard, neighboured by an ornate outdoor avery filled with a large collection of birds both colourful and otherwise.

The perks a high ranking officer such as Camden could find and make a home out of. One he rarely got to visit much nowadays, but it acted as a haven for his own. One lady of which stood in the avery, throwing out bird seed and kneeling down to attentively pet some of the tiny chirping, painted quails at her feet. His youngest off duty hidden away in a cooler room to escape the heat.

And of course there was another vistor he’d been waiting for... One he was quite keen to sit down and chat with after noticing an interesting connection that they had developed with his eldest. Not that he minded. He welcomed it gracefully as he did one Lieutenant to stay over at the family home for a week.

This reploids report had been nothing short of stellar so far on the records. Camden regretted not having extended an invitation sooner admittedly, but his own schedule had fallen short of having an ideal moment until now.

The mature reploid sat back, opening a can and crossing his legs as he looked out proudly over his little kingdom.

“I know you’re skulking around somewhere Lieutenant. Unclench and come join me for a drink eh?” The calm, deep voice of the eldest Commander would call out.

He still had his tricks, that was for sure.

"Halfway between ☰ and ❤. I mean, the Maverick Hunters are the ones who have claimed he's gone maverick, and I have reason to believe that sometimes they don't actually have their shit together when applying that label."

Umbran would be surprised at that, but also see it as fair. His own faith in the Maverick Hunters had waned since he left them, but not entirely lost.

Dax had ducked into the coffee shop earlier in the morning and had spent a fair amount of time hanging out, occasionally getting a new drink to keep the staff happy with him taking a table all morning. He'd reviewed the contents of the drive, and had a pretty fair idea of who had dropped it. Now if he could just 'accidentally' run into her somewhere he suspected she frequents he could return it.

It’s a beautiful sight. Lights glowing beneath some of the cold, white blankets of snow, light flurries trickling down from the thick grey clouds covering the sky, but it kept the people down below absolutely cheerful. Many others hustled about the sidewalks enjoying their respective company, with a few eager kids running past those slow walkers eagerly off to have some snowy fun. Good on them. 

Jayden found it both bothersome but quite convenient to have this time off for herself. No work meant actually finding other things to do either around her home or about the city. She knew she had a time commitment earlier that day, so something had to be done until then. 

A walk around the city could pass by that time, and lo she happened to stroll down the street near her workplace. That also meant passing by her usual cafe. Well...maybe they have those flavored fraps or mochas still on the menu. It wouldn’t hurt to snag one then continue her wanderings. 

A little bell rang at the entrance. Jayden brushed off the bits of flakes from her new, knitted hat then stepped in line for a quick order.

Commander Avianna made the mistake of telling the Naming Committee that she wanted one of the new planes to have a "Dignified Name" The committee liked the sound of it and DN-01 happened shortly after.

“I can’t believe the audacity. The nerve. The cheek. The... the absolute....” The commander would pause, the corners of her mouth pulling in to a defeated smile as she laughed at her hubris. “Who am I kidding. Of course I can believe it.”

❤❤❤ for the most part, especially for a certain specific someone. ❤❤ for some of the ones he doesn't meet frequently.

A certain someone would neaten their paper stack and clear their throat, looking serenely content at that answer.

Meanwhile, a collective montage of thumbs up and happy faces from said other individuals would respond further.

“Good thing. Even if Ironically your choice of ‘bed’ might make some others think otherwise.”  Isaac would note with a deep chortle.

Catching those hands

Corporal Buckler had a dilemma. She had access to a personnel file containing all kinds of interesting and relevant aspects about the owner of the tech she was trying to examine, but without reading it, she couldn’t know how much it would give away. Where would the fun be if she opened it looking for a hint, a faint clue, just a direction to look, and it contained all the information? Why read the whole book if you just accidentally spoiled the ending?

On the other hand, if she didn’t deliver results soon, she’d be forced to take those measures anyway, or risk disappointing Avi. Even aside from being her boss, Aspis considered the Commander a friend and didn’t want to let her down.

A compromise had to be made. She’s opened up the file, going strictly as far as looking at the pictures in the file. While she couldn’t make out any details that narrowed the possibilities down, she got a good look at him. Relatively normal humanoid shape, some distinct features that would make him stand out enough in a crowd to find.

She closed the file before she could be tempted to take the easy way out and read about his specs and abilities. She knew, from the Commander’s hint, that he had something to do with communications or....disrupting them. But now it was time for a rare chance at ‘field work’.

Aubrey was one of many tinker-mechaniloids on the carrier, but this one was Hers. And she had a task for him. “Find this reploid”

There might have been some other helpers called in, as it only took fifteen minutes before Aurbrey was back, meowing at her to follow.”
