Marinette doesn’t pick up his first call, nor his second, so Adrien resigns himself to hugging his Ladybug-patterned pillow on his bed. There’s no way she knows, he tells himself— Ladybug had only just left, and unless Alya was lurking outside the house—
The thought sends him rolling off his bed to get to his computer to check the Ladyblog. As he does, his phone rings.
He jabs his finger at the green icon on his phone. “Marinette?”
“Adrien?”
“Y-yes, ah, can-I-come-over?”
She hesitates. “I’m expecting someone— Cat Noir,” she admits, and Adrien feels a jolt, because yes, it’s a Friday night, and Marinette will be expecting him for their customary end-of-week get-together on her roof. “But if you do come, you two can finally meet!”
Adrien shakes his head. “N-no, it’s just— um. Ladybug just came by and… and asked if we could date. Me and her, I mean. Ladybug. And I didn't— I said I couldn’t, except I remembered what you said, when you told me about Cat Noir, and I said I didn’t mind, and then you said you wouldn’t mind either, but you were probably joking—”
“I wasn’t,” Marinette replies immediately. “I, um. I had a hunch! That she liked you back, I mean! Do you… do you want to come over and talk about it?”
Adrien grimaces. “I… don’t think I can actually sneak out,” he lies. “I was just… Can we stay connected a little longer?”
“Of course.”
Adrien closes his eyes, leaning back into his desk chair. He tries to think of something to say. Fails.
“So… Ladybug?” Marinette prompts.
“Ladybug.” Adrien tries to remember what he should know about her, not what Cat Noir knows about her. “Isn’t she dating Cat Noir?”
“She must have heard about you from him somehow, and he would’ve known, um, from me.”
Adrien laughs. “I guess so, yeah. Yeah. It’s… wow. You’re really okay if I date her?”
“You’re okay with me dating Cat Noir,” she reminds him. “I kind of have to be okay with you and Ladybug—”
“No, that’s different,” Adrien protests. “If it weren't— I’m only okay with it because I'm— because it’s Cat Noir. But—”
“But I’m only okay with it because it’s Ladybug. It’s kind of the same, isn’t it?” Her voice becomes fonder, a note he recognizes as being for Cat Noir and not Adrien. “He said the same thing about you, you know. It’s only okay because it’s you.”
He fights down the bizarre burst of jealousy he’d felt over his other self. “Y-yeah?”
“Yeah.”
He should just say goodbye and hang up, should become Cat Noir and talk to her in person about him and Ladybug— that is, about Cat Noir and Ladybug, rather than about Adrien and Ladybug, but maybe they can talk about both. For once, though, he wants to stay Adrien.
“I should go,” he says. “I’ll be busy tomorrow, so…”
“Right, of course.”
“Yeah…. Good night, Marinette.”
“Good night, my Adrien.”
His heart warms— he likes being hers, he realizes. “… I love you.” But he whispers the words after he’s hung up. “Plagg, claws out.”

Day 38: Hello
And I am back with another month of writing! I am using a prompt list and aiming for under 200 words. Hope I can portray some fun scenes that you can enjoy! ♡
The hallway was dark with only the warm glow of candles acting as the source of light. The sharp whistle of the wind by the window was all I could hear beside my own deafening footsteps. No matter how light I stepped, it sounded like a thunderous stomp. Every door I passed looked like the previous. I looked back, maybe I had passed a staircase, an open door or a picture that would act as a landmark. I couldn’t focus on anything, my brain felt like it was constantly reshuffling, unable to hold onto concrete thoughts. I shook my head as if the physical movement would settle the brain fog. When that didn’t work I turned back around to make my way down the hallway. A humming caused me to freeze, it was the first human thing I’ve heard since I’d started this endless journey. I waited and heard it again, this time it was closer and behind me. I turned and nothing was there. Laughter followed to my right. Again, I turned, the hallway still empty. I opened my mouth but no words left. Another voice spoke instead, deep as it echoed through me, “Hello, my little bird.”
