18/06/19-Seahouses: Morning walk 

With my Mum and her husband getting a turn to do the Farne Islands trip I did yesterday today, I looked after the dogs for a good chunk late morning and into the afternoon. But we did do a morning walk around the coastal path near to the cottage first on sunny day, views from this shown in the 1st, 7th, 8th, 9th and 10th pictures in this photoset. 

We managed to walk under the Kittiwake colony on the beach which was amazing, I took the 2nd, 5th and 6th pictures in this photoset of these gorgeous birds. I really have had some amazing close views of this particular species this week already, yesterday and today among my most intimate ever. I reflected when down here what a journey I have been on with this species since 2017. Prior to that it was one of my favourite birds, I came to adore it as I did Guillemot, Razorbill, Puffin, Gannet and Fulmar and eventually Black Guillemot, the group of birds which were the ultimate ones I dreamt of seeing and then was overjoyed when I did in my early birdwatching days. So important to the interest I have now and I hope I portrayed yesterday how I feel in heaven around these birds. 

But until last year I’d only seen them on the amazing Skomer Island and around it. Which, not to criticize it at all you can’t get too close to Kittiwake on. I didn’t photograph one until 2013, with some more on another trip there in 2014. But from 2015 onwards only Fulmar, Gannet, Razorbill and Guillemot were available for me to see. An Anglesey Puffin sighting changed that in the summer of 2016 when I already had plans to make my Pembrokeshire return in 2017. So when I did it was Kittiwake just as much as Puffin I longed to see on that holiday, seeing one on the mainland a fly by before getting onto the island. 

Last year on our Bempton Cliffs/Flamborough Head adventure Kittiwake (my first ever seen in England) alongside Gannet stole the seabird show, because seeing them for the first time ever nesting on the mainland allowed me to see them closer than ever before. This allowed a development in the quality of pictures and amount of them I could take of them, which this trip away has followed on from perfectly and I can’t get enough of these birds I adore seeing them three years running for the first time ever. The tern species may take the headlines of my trip so to speak, Puffin and Kittiwake were always gonna come next. I am having the experience with Shag and Eider this week which I had with Kittiwake and Gannet last year seeing them closer than ever. But with respect to all the other star birds, and mammals and butterflies its hard not to think at the moment I might look back on this holiday as the moment Kittiwake came to the forefront of my mind. Within the colony this morning we spotted Fulmar also, shown in the 3rd and 4th pictures in this photoset. One dashed right past our head which was fantastic.

Wildlife Sightings Summary: Two of my favourite birds the Kittiwake and Fulmar, one of my favourite butterflies the Red Admiral, Painted Ladies another star of the show this week so far, Green-veined White, Sand Martin, Swallow and House Martin, the Swifts and hurundines an unsung hero this week I think so many about, House Sparrow, Starling, Great Black Backed Gull, Common Tern and Jackdaw.
