now i am become death // self para
There was that break moment of respite that captured perfect silence as blood was spreading across his hands, painting them deeply to never let the red fade. The moment of silence between the last cannon and the first applause that sucked him dry. The last moment of sincerity he would ever get to taste, before the solemn, winning anthem with boom with the intensity they were announcing child deaths just moments ago. Hunter felt the pyramid walls break down in revelation the moment he became the last breathing toy in that arena. He felt the floor vibrate, the ceiling crack under the weight of the sun, shining victoriously for him. It was a moment of scarlet revelations and the jealousy kissed him like a million sirens as he realized he couldn’t pull out of his throat the victory war scream stuck in there. Collapsing to the ground as he let his soul be touched by the magnitude of having functioning lungs at the end of the day, in spite of the every last thing created to work against him in that hell hole, Hunter’s eyes grew tears because he could hear the drums announce death. Announce him. He was going back to Jeannie. For once, a promise he made hadn’t turned to ashes. How could he not be left speechless and dry of tears as the earth was exploding in fireworks that formed the letters of his name? It mattered less that it was the same name they were gritting their teeth spelling out. It mattered less that they had tried to spill his blood all over the arena. It didn’t matter. He survived and he would survive anything from now on. That was what mattered. His lungs, pulsating in his chest, were the only trophy he would ever need. The tears weren’t stopping as voice of the man who announced he had to die for the other starving children to get a bun of bread and butter announced words neither of them would hear, even in heaven.
There was a rotten taste in his mouth and, frankly, if victory tasted like iron and boiled water, it certainly wasn’t his flavor. Oh, who was he trying to kid? He swallowed and closed his eyes to breathe in the moment properly as they announced him for their victor. Hunter Twill, alive. Hunter Twill, out of the arena. Hunter Twill, free. A moment of broken spell occurred as he imagined they would send him back to the avox bedrooms and dressed him up in white. It was then the wild laughter he had suppressed in his chest in spite of the occasional chuckles of spite - it was then the monstrous laughter got released. As he was laughing in their face, with every camera pointed at him. He stood up, fingers still clenched on the mace he reckoned he would not leave out of his hands any time soon, and followed the red arrows appearing painted on the floor. The pyramid door was wide open and the sand was no longer blowing in his face. He wanted to kneel, to thank the odds, but before the theatrical sign of gratitude the Capitol would read as flattery even when he had no business with them, another thought flashed through his mind. He was the wrong Twill to win. It should have been Addison and it should have been last year. A weakened sigh left his mouth as he swallowed the blood. The worst thing in his life was turning into the best, and he didn’t know how to resist the temptation to cherish his sister’s death, because it led to his glory. It was disgusting and he spit out of disgust for his own thoughts, but those were the Games and they made him meet the worst of him. He didn’t want to think it, but it was on his mind, like a plague that could never be cured. The real final plague, that would stick with him until the very end. The three days darkness plague seemed to leave with him as he left the pyramid and it crept onto his soul, instead. At least it wasn’t the frogs, he thought and smiled melancholically as the hoverboard made room for him to get aboard.
Even then, even spotted and knowing that he would never sleep well again, without nightmares that included him drowning in the dead tributes’ blood, he decided to focus on the only purity left in his heart. He knew that he wasn’t to be glad for himself, at least. He knew it was Jeannie he killed for, ultimately, and it was Jeannie he wouldn’t have settled for death because. He loved the glory, but he at least loved his little sister more, and now he was sure of it.
It was so quick, everything else. He was connected to medical equipment and doctors were agitating surrounding him. The face cut had priority: of course they would care about his pretty boy face the most. Hunter sighed sadly; they should have seen his pretty boy tongue. A pretty nurse cleaned it, taking her time and smiling like bubblegum and Capitol plastic and Hunter even winked at her before the disinfectant started holing his wound and stinging like first level torture. He was used to the pain by then, but it didn’t make him immune. At the same time, another two nurses - a male and a female, this one time - took care of his thigh and shoulder. They were filling syringes with neon colored liquids, and he wondered if they were going to poison him, but that was a risk he had to take, because without medical help, he would die anyway. Besides, the Capitol didn’t want dead victors to crown, even rebels being. The Capitol would learn to love him because it’s the Capitol. That had to be true, because, otherwise, the arena wasn’t ending for him there. He would be constantly hunted, constantly the eldest tribute who needed to be eliminated. He remembered words of older victors. The arena never truly ended, for anybody. A shudder passed his body and the pretty nurse smiled politely seeing it and continued working her magical needle. Stretching out his hands and cracking his knuckles, he signed, for the first time in almost a week, feeling inferior but, regardless, feeling alive. Back to the avox center for me?
The pretty blonde shook her head, her smile growing less and less formal. Wasn’t he getting to her already? The smirk didn’t hesitate like he did before signing again. I’m sorry I won. Must be a disgrace. He grimaced mentally at his own self pity, compliment seeking comment, but it worked, because she even broke the rule to assure him in her annoying accent that she wasn’t mad at all and that he had done beautifully. What a shame I have no tongue though. But she didn’t reply anymore, focused on Sirus’ last masterpiece and slightly rosy in a way blush could have been blamed if Hunter insisted. He didn’t. He was tired and he wanted to sleep forever, although generally relieved that he won. He thought again, one last time before asking them to sedate him, about the arena and viewed Temperance Brush’s breathless corpse before his eyes. She was a lucky one, he concluded after all, because she was going to heaven. But he? He was going back to the Capitol.
Closing his eyes Castiel could feel the power of the souls flowing throughout him, never before had he felt such power. He did regret that he had to hurt Sam in order to get away from the brothers but it might just work in his favor. "After all a God needs a consort and who better than the Boy King?" It wouldn't take much angel's grace is far more addicting than demon blood and in Sam's weaken state it will be like taking candy from a baby. - SLW anon

Day V: Something you would change about the world.
I wish people were smarter. Not necessarily academically... just common sense wise. It seems like every day I hear something that makes me lose a little bit more faith in humanity, and it's just heartbreaking. People are just so insanely stupid sometimes, and I hate to say it, but it's so true. It blows my mind to know that there are people out there who are abusive to their significant others/children/friends, there are people out there who racist and sexist and discriminatory towards anyone that isn't like them, there are religious zealots who can't accept others and would rather resort to violence, there are people who bully those with disabilities or those that come from bad situations that are beyond their control, etc.
People just blow my mind with stupidity sometimes.
