Information: John Smedley steps down as Daybreak CEO

John Smedley has stepped down as president and CEO of Daybreak (formerly Sony On-line Leisure), the developer has confirmed to GamesBeat.

“I can affirm that John Smedley can be taking some time off from the corporate for the near-term and transitioning to a unique function to be determined,” a spokesperson for Dawn told the positioning. “Upon finalization of his plans, additional communication will probably be offered.”

Current COO Russell Shanks will step in as the brand new president of the corporate.

Smedley recently hit the headlines after threatening to sue Julius Kivimaki, a member of the cyber crime group Lizard Squad. Smedley was on-board a plane which was grounded after a bomb threat was made by the group.

Kivimaki was convicted of more than 50,000 laptop-associated offences, however faced no jail time. Smedley reacted on Twitter by stating he was “coming for” Kivimaki. This put Dawn in the firing line, and on July 9 Lizard Squad launched a DDoS assault on Daybreak’s servers.
