Planning Appeal Allowed for New Nursery in Peterborough
Alpha Kindergarten have successfully been awarded planning permission at appeal for a Rayner Davies designed 92 place children’s day nursery in the Stanground area of Peterborough. Although the scheme was recommended for approval by planning officers, Peterborough’s planning committee refused the application, a decision overturned by the Planning Inspectorate.
The scheme is based upon a courtyard garden arrangement to create a safe play area enclosed by the building. A number of contemporary ‘chimney’ features maintain air quality within the spaces using passive stack techniques. A simple mono-pitched roof form slopes towards the courtyard with the building clad in colourful panels interspersed between these vertical brick elements.
Work is expected to start later this year and will be completed summer 2021.
