Story time: Soooo I somehow ended up in one of my fav underground clubs and witnessed an incredible set. I could feel how this 2 djs were just vibing, and their song selection was sagacious so I had to find out more about them. This is what I could compile from what there is online about them:
Dazzle Drums is a musical duo consisting of Nagi and Kei Sugano, a married couple who reside in Tokyo. Kei Sugano grew up in the ghetto of Tokyo and was inspired by the hip-hop culture of '92 to become a DJ in clubs and discos in Tokyo. After gaining valuable experience from renowned DJs Tony Humphries and Timmy Regisford, Kei transitioned his style to focus more on soulful music rooted in house and garage classics. This journey led him to visit New York City multiple times, where he discovered his second musical inspiration in venues such as Loft, Zanzibar, Sound Factory Bar, The Shelter, Warehouse, Body & Soul, and other parties.
Nagi developed a love for dance music since the age of 15, although she had never been to a disco or club before. Her first club experience was introduced by her gay friend in '96. On the dance floor, Nagi realized that she could express her personality regardless of nationality, which motivated her to start her own DJ career.
In 1997, Nagi met Kei Sugano, and they began collaborating on their musical endeavors. Nagi also became a part of "Smoker," a party organized by DJ Nori, which has been held every Wednesday at club LOOP since 1998 and continues to the present day.
