Ghostbusters AU
The four RKs are the Ghostbusters.
Connor, Nines and Sixty are scientists while their half brother Markus was the artist.
They’ve all had an interest in the supernatural since growing up in a haunted mansion.
After Carl dies, the mansion becomes theirs, they leave their jobs and set up their ghost busting business.
Markus designs the logo, Connor drives publicity, Sixty the one designing their packs while Nines is the muscle of the group.
They hire Gavin as the receptionist. It’s all Nines’ doing, nobody understands why or how it happened until Sixty catches them making their own ectoplasm over the receptionist desk.
One of their first customers is Hank. His house is haunted by the ghost of his son, Cole.
It’s not the first ghost the brothers catch, but it is definitely one of the most emotional ones. They didn’t even have to use their packs, Connor just talked to Cole, helped him move on from the house and his dad.
From then on, Hank becomes a regular face at their HQ, often bringing boxed of doughnuts for the brothers to enjoy. He says they fall on his way to work - bit of a lie but he’ll happily take a detour if it means seeing Connor smile.
The neighbouring tattoo shop catches Markus’ eye. There’s a certain amount of artistic flair to Jericho. He ends up befriending the three tattoo artists who work there. On slow days, he even gets to be a guest designer for them.
Which just leaves Sixty on his lonesome. He doesn’t much care for humans, far too enthralled with science.
The irony of their business is that the brothers never realise their own building is haunted. At least, not until Sixty gets into an argument with the guy who keeps staring at him. This is a workplace, not a museum!
Only, the guy isn’t quite solid. He offers Sixty a small, sad smile and disappears.
After a bit of reading on the history of the building, Sixty finds out that the ghost had once been the captain of a SWAT team, caught in the chest by a live bullet on a training exercise. Nobody ever got prosecuted for his death, he never got closure.
All while their personal lives are developing, morphing and flourishing, the incidents of ghosts is on the rise.
A portal opens over the penthouse of Elijah Kamski, an eccentric local millionaire with a taste for the macabre.
Turns out, it wasn’t just a taste for the macabre, he was quite intent on merging the worlds of the living and the dead. Just because he was bored.
The brothers have to go in, this is their job after all. Hank’s there with the DPD, worried for Connor and his family.
Gavin turns up on a motorbike with a spare pack on his back, hastily talked through its use by Allen who had helped cobble the pack together from the remains of one on Sixty’s workbench.
Elijah is a lost cause, completely sucked into the world of spirits. He becomes Zuul the Gate Keeper.
Unfortunately for Gavin, he’s possessed by the Key Master and becomes a puppet of the spirit world too.
A big fight ensues, Connor fucks up and a giant, ghostly imitation of Sumo, Hank’s loving dog rampages through the streets of Detroit.
The great evil is defeated, everyone lives, people cheer as the brothers re-emerge from the building, a dazed Elijah and Gavin in tow.
While Elijah is handed over to the authorities, Nines carries Gavin away for a personal check-up.
The Jericrew greet Markus with towels, a hot drink and massive cuddles.
Connor is pulled into a bearhug by Hank and is gifted a small kiss to a lot of cheers.
It leaves Sixty on his own at the top of the stairs to the building, no one to greet him.
Now that the portal is closed, he worries that maybe he’s lost Allen for good. It’s probably for the best, no ghost should linger like that.
There’s a soft squeeze on Sixty’s hand and when he looks to the side, there’s a bit of shimmering in the air and a whisper of lips against his cheek.
Sixty doesn’t really believe it. He’s never had that kind of luck. However, a soft “come home” brushing against the shell of his ear has him smiling. Perhaps not all ghosts had returned to the realm of the dead. Some had a happy reason to stay.
