summary: under the influence of pain medication after an accident, you see your new doctor, Damian Wayne, and can’t help but flirt with him, immediately falling in love
a/n: this feels a lot better than my last post and longer so I hope you guys enjoy lol, it’s pretty late but I had a busy day and I’m just happy I actually finished it today :)
cw: hospitals, mentions of surgery and bombs going off (not specific at all), pain killers, being high off painkillers, IV’s.
Everything felt like a blur. Your head was sore, actually your whole body was. Your mouth was dry and you felt utterly exhausted.
Blinking your eyes only made it worse as the bright hospital lights blinded you. There was a quiet beeping sound beside you.
Your mind felt dizzy. Slowly trying to catch up with everything.
Something had happened obviously. Something that ended you up unconscious in the hospital, desperate to get comfortable again.
The second you had tried moving a door opened and in walked a tired yet earnest looking nurse.
"Hello there. How are you feeling?"
Her voice was quiet and gentle. Like she knew that all of this was a lot to wake up to.
"Uh tired. And uncomfortable."
"Sorry to hear that. I'm sure I could get you some extra pillows or something." She picked up your chart and looked back to you.
"Do you know what happened?"
Did you? It was hard to think about eith everything else going on. Maybe you would if you were given time, she seemed to realize that pretty quickly.
"Looks like you got in the crossfire of some big fight. A bomb went off a little too close to where you were and you were knocked unconscious. An emergency surgery was given but everything went well and it looks like you're doing pretty good right now."
"Well…I guess that's Gotham for you right?" You responded weakly, your head already hitting the pillow again.
Luckily she had the decency to chuckle softly at your poor attempt to joke about something serious like this.
You watched her move about the room for a bit before she came by your IV with a needle.
"This will be for the pain and soreness you're feeling or about to feel. Unfortunately things tend to feel worse before they feel better. You'll be a little drowsy and out of it while it does its job."
Taking your small nod as a response, she finished up and eventually left the room after giving you a bright smile. At least she was nice.
Exhaustion took over once more and you let your eyes close. The painkiller could do its work while you slept.
Though it wasn't long before you had to face those bright lights again. Drowsy was definitely one way to put it. You felt high out of your mind.
The room felt unsteady and the flickering light in the corner wasn't helping. You almost felt like laughing despite feeling so gross.
A clearing of a throat made you look up and…wow.
Your half lidded eyes made an attempt to open further to take a look at was in front of you.
He was a tall man, white coat covering his body but he looked well built. Soft brown skin that felt a lot nicer on your eyes than the white lights.
His eyes were a bright and striking green, complimenting the dark head of hair and really everything about him. Was this really your doctor? Were you hallucinating your perfect type?
The man's voice cut off your inner rambling.
"I'm Doctor Wayne. I'm here to check over everything and make sure the surgery results stayed where we needed them. How are you feeling?"
His voice was like silk, a beautiful accent within stern word. Definitely not a Gotham accent but you couldn't be happier at hearing it.
Damian froze for a moment as he looked at you. Taking a second to realize what you actually said.
"You should be. I probably look half dead and you're over there standing like some god from above."
If he wasn't speechless before he certainly was now. You almost laughed when you checked on the amount of painkiller you were given.
"I'm being honest, I'm not just high. Or…really it's both."
Your doctor finally turned to face you again. Eyeing you suspiciously for a moment before softening slightly.
"Very well then. May I check your vitals?"
He decided to ignore that. Walking over with measured steps, Damian carefully took your wrist and placed two firm fingers on your pulse.
"How long as your pulse been elevated?"
"Since I saw you probably."
You smiled a little dopey, the meds definitely giving you the confident boost you needed to be able to speak to him like this. Most likely a little too big of a boost.
Damian hummed softly and you noticed a small quirk of his lips making your own smile grow.
You watched him happily as he moved, checking everything he needed too, your face getting warmer any time he got closer.
"Everything looks good. You'll be here for about another night or two just to make sure everything stays the same. Do you have any questions or concerns?"
His eye brow raised slightly as he nodded for you to continue.
"I'm just a little concerned that I won't be able to get your number. Can doctors give their numbers out? You should be able to do that."
"Tt. No, that is a regulated rule that must not be broken in order to preserve doctor and patient professionalism."
You hummed, giggling slightly after.
"Your little tut, it's attractive. How do you do it? Like thhh tss." Your body wasn't in full control yet, making the attempts sound like a little kid learning a new word.
Damian saw the way your eyes practically glowed when he did it again.
"I shall add uncoordinated speech to your chart." He moved away from you bed, picking up the clip board to do just that.
"Rude. I saw you have the little smile before ya know?"
"You did not. You are on medication that prevents full focus and coordination."
"Mmm did so pretty doctor. Now how do I get your number without breaking your doctor rules?"
Damian sigh and looked up slightly from the chart. He wouldn't admit that this was funny. That yes, he enjoyed being sought out after but he'd rather you be in full control of your mind and body if you were going to make a move on him.
He also would never dare to break what you called his "doctor rules." They were there for a reason and he was entrusted to fulfill them.
Before he could politely shut you down again, you spoke.
"Oh! I know! I really like going to this cafe on um- 3rd..what street was it? Hold on-"
"33rd street, right off the highway?"
His gaze softened when he saw you light up again.
"Yes! I go there every Saturday. That's not true, it would be too expensive. But I do go there some Saturdays to study and order the same thing I do every time."
"Do you now? What do you study?"
"Oh I'm in college to become a vet. I really like animals and there isn't enough of them in Gotham which leads to so many of them ending up on the streets and it makes me really sad."
Damian couldn't help but feel the interest in his chest grow. Animals were something very precious too him and if he hadn't decided to become a doctor, a field helping out animals would have been his next option.
"Wait- why was I talking about the cafe? Oh yeah! You can come there and pretend to bump into me and I can get your number then! That way no doctor rules are broken and you can see me when I'm not on meds and look like whatever I look like now. I actually don't know, there's no mirrors but just pretend it's not that bad. I'll look really good when we meet again."
He didn't hold back his chuckle this time. His admiration growing as you laid out the plan despite still being out of it.
"You sure you won't be too embarrassed after you sleep these meds off?"
"No. I'll probably be horrified and really nervous but I keep being told to step out of my comfort zone and stuff. And I can't even see my comfort zone right now so I'll just let future me deal with this."
"Of course. Well I do have other patients to attend to. I'll…think about your proposal."
He had a funny feeling he'd be showing up to the cafe every Saturday now, not that he'd ever admit it.
"Try not to flirt with anymore nurses or doctors that you see."
"Don't worry pretty doctor, only you."
Damian left with your dopey smile practically engraved in his mind. This should be enough motivation for him to get him through the rest of his shift.
