When I shifted to this reality, over a year ago now, it was completely on accident. I had been between classes and had a while until my next one, so I got in bed and decided to take a nap. I had absolutely no desire to shift at the time, I was just tired. However, when I woke up I was in the guest bedroom of the Kent’s farm.
In that reality, Conner Kent was my best friend. I was a fellow kryptonian, akin to Kara, who had been sent off of krypton right before its destruction and my ship got knocked off course. I was drawn into a wormhole and got spit out decades later before my ship ended up on earth around a week afterwards.
I wasn’t a hero like everyone else, I decided that wasn’t the life for me and I just wanted to live ‘normally’. I was, however, a type of reserve force so I could help the Justice league if they ever needed any other heavy hitters badly.
I wasn’t there very long, around 5-8 hours if I had to guess but there was a lot going on and I didn’t exactly have a watch on me. There was a wedding going on, Bumblebee and Guardian’s, and Kara had,, stolen a baby. I never got to figure out what that was about but I assume she was helping it.
What I do remember extremely well, was flying. In complete honesty I actually fell flat on my ass when I first tried, it was extremely embarrassing but at least it was only in front of Kon. But after that when I actually took flight? It was the most exhilarating feeling of my existence. I miss the feeling of the wind on my face every day.
The trend on tiktok awhile back of “One day I am gonna grow wings” hit hard because of this. So many people had so many different interpretations, but all I could think of was flying. Genuinely flying is one of the only things I can think about sometimes. Flying for me is freedom incarnate. It’s the most freeing experience I’ve ever had and I wouldn’t give it up for anything.
Without shifting I never would’ve been able to experience that. Not really. And it wasn’t a dream of any kind, it was as real as the wind, the trees, and the sun. It didn’t feel like lucid dreams do, it didn’t feel floaty and disconnected, it felt solid and real. Shifting is real, and you don’t need some complicated method or mindset to do it. You just need to remember it’s possible, and even when you don’t think it’s possible, you can still do it. Happy shifting everyone.
And yes, capes do help with aerodynamics, but no I didn’t wear one.
