Get in the van.
The SkateFolk Olympic Watch and Block Party was a huge success. For two days skaters and supporters alike took over The Howard Theatre. And the takeover was both inside and out with two mini ramps, street setup, vendors and more. And of course a big screen to watch the women’s and men’s skatepark finals. DMV Skaters get ready because Next Tuesday and Wednesday, August 6th & 7th it is on! The SKATEFOLK Block Party with USA Skateboarding is happening from 12pm-7:30pm daily, at The Howard Theatre in DC. going the distance for Parkinson’s Disease
Well the hard part is over, and that’s an understatement when describing just what it means to skateboard 45 miles non-stop, in one day. That is what the DC Wheels Charity Team, 45 skateboarding crusaders set out to do last Saturday, May 9th 2015. Why crusaders, because they put their boards and bodies to the test to raise awareness for Parkinson’s Disease research. They gathered in Bethesda, Maryland and after a brief rally speech, pushed and kicked their way south through Washington, D.C. into Virginia. After reaching Mt. Vernon (which was the 28th mile) they turned around and skated 17 more miles, through the dark, to the finish line on Roosevelt Island in Rosslyn, Va.
That first battle was won but the war against Parkinson’s disease is far from over. The DC Wheels Charity Team raised close to $3000 for their efforts. Click on the link below to see how you could get involved.
