Little snippet for your patience ✨
Gregory whipped his head to the side to glare down at Hailey, aghast. "This isn't the position I applied for!"
Hailey blinked placidly back at him, snapping her gum. "What did you apply for?"
"I was just supposed to be a handyman," Gregory hissed. "An electrician, not a unglorified babysitter!"
"Your skills as an electrician are exactly what qualified you for this position," Hailey stated. "That and your lack of criminal record that indicates you'll be safe to have around children. The lights in the daycare are the ones that need the most attention, and are an immediate problem should they malfunction; having someone who can fix them close at hand at all times is most beneficial. Not to mention that the daycare attendant has had enough incidents in the past to require a human chaperone for an extended period of time."
A glance at said daycare attendant showed them to be stock still, still holding that ridiculous landing pose. Even without proper 'pupils', Gregory could tell that they were staring at his face. Even worse.
It recognized him.
But, like Monty, it also didn't seem interested in tattling on him. In fact, it seemed rather...stuck, at the moment.
"If they've had 'incidents' before—" Gregory gave sarcastic little air quotes. "Why are they still allowed around kids?"
Hailey's eyes darkened almost imperceptibly. "You're not being paid to ask questions, Mr. Solum. If you have an issue with your position or the details pertaining to it, you can either take it up with management or hand in your resignation."
Gregory's hands curled into fists. He had worked too hard just to get in this fucking hellscape. He couldn't quit now.
"Fine," he spat. "What do you need me to do?"
Pointing a chipped nail to the front desk again, Hailey answered, "Sit at that desk, and log any sort of malfunctions or oddities that occur in the daycare onto the maintenance sheet. Log anything that a child breaks or ruins or eats onto the necessities sheet, as well as the billing sheet so that the price can appear on the parents' itemized receipt to make up for the loss."
Of course. Because a crayon or two was so far out of FE's budget.
