Sorom fingers stroked the words on the invitation. The date was set two months away -- the paper was so fine and delicate that she knew a lot of work had gone in to choosing its design and had to be an expensive set. She began to wonder just how many people received an invitation.
Why would Micah send it to her? The last time they’d actually seen each other she’d been crying so hard that she couldn’t remember what he’d said. The sounds of her choking through her tears had been burned in to her memories that she’d lost her voice for three days and she had to miss work. She’d been scolded by her boss for missing that long that she’d made up the excuse something had happened with her family instead of the real reason that she’d broken up with her boyfriend.
Sorom also knew she couldn’t just decline the invitation and move on. For someone as quiet as her, she had a certain strength about her that wouldn’t let this simply settle -- she wiped at her eyes, wrapped a scarf around her neck, and was on the train in to the city to his company.
Getting through to his office had been difficult. Some random woman making her way through all those chairs with people staring, yet no one stopped her since she knew her way around well enough that showed she wasn’t just someone random. Sorom didn’t even knock. She’d opened the door and just walked in, holding the invitation and looking on the verge of crying again.
“...why did you write that?” she asked, flipping around the invitation that showed his scribbled words ‘ i’m getting married to someone else , but you’re the true love of my life ’
