waterfall is surely a peaceful place, almost like snowdin, and sometimes it’s really hard to picture loud people like undyne and papyrus sticking around here too much, breaking the silence with their excessive energy and brave spirits. or maybe they just enjoy the quietness as much as he does. who could ever be sure? oh well. he’s got a lot else in mind right now to be thinking about his bro and that badass lady.
finding the kid in one of the silent meadows isn’t so difficult. sitting by their side in the blueish ground and forcing himself to do nothing...
that’s the hard part. he’s almost grateful they don’t talk too much at first--it’s easier to push the rage aside, to keep it at bay when he’s quiet, focused. they didn’t do anything wrong in this run yet. no monsters harmed. no dust trail behind them. but it won’t last. it never does, it never did. thinking they’ll be stuck in a timeline with a happy ending forever is no more than a fever dream and he’s been over it for a long time now.
there’s always another run, another timeline.
no need to beat himself over something he’ll never achieve.
and then the kid finally decides to stop struggling with their words and the question echoes almost loudly in the quiet ambience. oh.
yeah, that’s the exact conversation he’s been dreading for quite some time now--not that he believed he could run from it forever, not after spilling so much info to the kid and messing with the whole timeline again. welp. a small change here and there once in a while is more than enough to keep him from dying of boredom--and he’s gotta admit, messing with the kid after a geno is slowly becoming his new favorite hobby.
is it cruel? definitely.
does he care? not at all.
he still takes another moment or so before answering, pupils focused on the nearest echo flower--they’ve always been his favorite down here, for some reason. oh boy, better stop trying to postpone that conversation. it’s not like he’s going to kill the child now that they’ve got this far into the timeline, anyway.
* longer than ya’ve been alive, kid
* told you once, i’m an ol’ bag of bones
