Walking home. March 2012.
Finally went to Ben's Chili Bowl, a dc institution. Got the veggie chili dawg, at midnight. Good looking crowd, the food was nothing to write home about. Forgot to ask the carnivore how his was.
Update: A friend tweeted me that there is no such thing as a veggie dog. I felt ridiculous ordering, but in the defense of the moment, the lovely ladies behind the counter did not laugh in my face.
On my way to meet a friend for dinner, I tripped so spectacularly that I fell out of one heel in slow motion, on the streets in my neighborhood. It was so surreal that two women stared at me as I fell, the entire slow time with their mouths open, and only started laughing after I got up, unbroken.
My friend, when I told him at dinner, explained “This is DC, no one helps you when you fall.” I replied that the women, while laughing, did ask if I was ok over and over, through the gasping for air and the shaking shoulders.
I wore my pointy pink clown shoes to work, the first time I've worn them in years. I remembered why I don't wear them when I stepped on the back of a woman's shoe in the metro, sliced her Achilles, and finished her off with a quick knee to the throat.
I feel so alive.
The shoes of an assassin clown, maybe.
