Day: 005
Shirt: Samiam Soar
Color: Classic White
Brand: Fruit Of The Loom
Source: I distinctly remember buying this shirt. it was around 1991, i was living in Sacramento with a girlfriend and her friend. i would make weekly trips to SF/ Berkeley to go see bands play. i loved music as a kid, i also remember having a bitchen Cassette collection, that i at this time was selling off for something like 5 Cassettes for $10 so i could go re-buy the same bands on CD so i could play it on my Discman. My friend mark was really into this band Samiam, whom i had heards lots of, but wasn't a fan of their first record.
I was more of a pop punk guy at the time, ALL, Descendents, Big Drill Car, and Green Day. I was easily talked in to going to see the show, cause i was like 18 and i did two things at the time, skateboarded and went to shows. East Bay was the mecca for both at the time, so you didn't have to tell me twice.
This show was at Gilman St. a place i would spend a lot of time as a youth. I think the show was , and im not positive here cause ive seen Samiam with almost every band possible, it was a rotating line up..Samiam, Fiteen and One Man Army. it may or may not have been a record release show, but i did get the shirt and the cd, all because of the first song off the "Soar" album which i heard live and fell in love with. we listened to that cd on repeat all the way home (still have that same CD today). it would end up being a new love of mine for a long time.
Ironic end to that story, Sergie would not only later end up moving to LA to be my roommate, but we also went skateboarding last weekend and that night i went to see a band play. its nice to know that somethings never change.
inspiration for this post is that Samaim has a new record out on hopeless and just posted some tour dates. it made me nostalgic. follow sergie @deadcosmo on twatter
