There were two young deer wandering around the palace.
That was the first news that reached the Queen's ears in the early morning. Apparently they had hidden themselves in the courtyard during the past day, and they found their way in in between guard shifts. The castle was much too big, however, and the two little creatures were quick. Even the people who located them hadn't succeeded in catching them.
They could tell her what they looked like, though. One was a regular male whitetail fawn, with tiny nubs on its head where antlers would soon grow. The other one, though, was a female just a few months older who possessed fur as black as the night sky with tiny flecks of a dull gray color. Both of them were barely old enough to eat plants, much less survive on their own. One of the maids mttered that their parents might have been killed in the last hunt.
Either way, there were two young animals running around the grand castle, and God knows what they might be doing.
