Deercember Week One: Garden (prompt link)
Places to find me outside of my current natural habitat (Tumblr):
Instagram: DeadofNightStudio
Bluesky: @DeadofNightStudio.bsky.social
Pillowfort: DeadofNightStudio
Twitch: MaladyRed
I’m cautious about giving out my Discord (I’m not much for DMs and I’m mostly on there for friends’ fandom server shenanigans), but I will share it w/trusted mutuals if asked. Just know I’m terribly shy & I don’t start conversations easily except once in a blue moon. But I do love hearing from friends!
I haven’t had the time or mental energy to do much with any of these sites yet but I do intend to start posting old art on most of them & testing the waters more. They may focus on Dead of Night Studio art stuff to start with, but if I find one that speaks to me the same way that Tumblr did I wouldn’t mind sharing more of the general dumbassery I get up to. :). Then again, I need to start sharing more of my dumbassery on here again, too. 🤔
ALSO! If any of you have recommendations for art-friendly sites, I’m all ears! I refuse to make an X or TikTok account (& even Insta is on thin ice with how incredibly vile random strangers are on there- so I’ll probably never do more than post art & run away). But any sites, even small ones, that are good for sculptors, painters, cosplayers, fiber art, etc. - I’d love to hear about ones you recommend!

FNAFuary #3: Main Stage [+ my own loosely applied random spooky prompt: “Seance”]
Reposting my RP account’s FNAFuary piece from 2019 to wish you a happy palentine’s day or just a good day wherever you are. Sending platonic love to all y’all & hope something warms your heart the way so many of you warm mine!

I figure I should try to document my process of creating a watercolor painting, so here we go with what will hopefully be a reference for my version of Jack-O-Bonnie on @jack-o-chica-the-spooky-chick!
Part one:
My tools at this point are a mechanical pencil with a fairly hard lead (which leaves lighter sketch lines), cheap-o watercolor paper, and a Staedtler Mars Plastic eraser. Working off of a reference, I usually start out with a manikin-like outline of the character, nailing down the pose and facial features (which are pretty neutral here since I intend this to be a reference image). I tend to make a ton of adjustments at this stage since I’m miserable at getting things symmetrical/balanced and … well … I’m a bit of a perfectionist and I’m usually spending this stage worrying about EVERYTHING.
Once I’m reasonably satisfied, I then try to define the final shape of the animatronic’s suit, which, in the case of FNAF bots, stays pretty close to the manikin’s outline. I now go in and add all the holes/rips in the suit and the endoskeleton visible through all the damage. I’m usually working off the reference fairly closely at this point, but taking necessary liberties where the damage may interfere with the character’s ability to emote or my own design choices. The designs will get simplified/modified through repetition as I learn which design elements don’t work well for my needs and which details can be ignored for the sake of what little sanity I have left (because there is no way in heck that I am going to go this detail-obsessive every time I draw them). Final adjustments are made at this step before I commit to inking the sketch … more about that next time!
https://www.etsy.com/no-en/shop/DeadOfNightStudio I hope that everyone has had a wonderful first day of fall (or spring, if you're south of the Equator)! In celebration of the Autumnal equinox and the start of my favorite [haunting] season, I’m adding some Halloween-y goodies to Dead of Night Studio on Etsy! The winged Jack-o-lantern necklace is back on there, and I’m trying to get my internet connection to cooperate so that I can upload more items. We’ll see if that happens tonight, otherwise I’ll post them as soon as I can.
