The rumble of the Impala's engine signaled Dean's return. You peeked out the window, your heart fluttering at the sight of him climbing out of his beloved car. His shoulders were slumped, his face was smeared with dirt, and the usual spark in his green eyes had dimmed. He looked every bit like a soldier coming back from battle—tired, battered, but alive.
As he stepped inside, he sighed heavily and tossed his jacket onto the couch. "Hey, sweetheart," he mumbled, barely managing a smile.
"Rough day?" you asked softly, walking up to him and reaching out to brush a smudge of dried blood from his cheek.
Dean nodded, leaning into your touch, his eyes closing briefly. "Yeah, you could say that. It's been one hell of a day."
You could see the exhaustion weighing on him. The hunt had clearly taken more out of him than he was willing to admit. But you had already anticipated this. You'd spent the last hour preparing something that you hoped would help him unwind.
"C'mon, Winchester," you said with a teasing grin, grabbing his hand. "I've got a surprise for you."
Dean raised an eyebrow but allowed you to lead him down the hall. "A surprise, huh? Better not be another horror movie marathon; I've seen enough blood and guts for a lifetime."
You just chuckled, shaking your head. "Nope. This is way better."
You stopped in front of the bathroom door, and with a flourish, you pushed it open. The warm scent of lavender and vanilla filled the air, and Dean's eyes widened as he took in the scene. Soft candlelight bathed the room in a golden glow, and the bathtub was filled to the brim with bubbles.
Dean blinked, looking at you with something close to awe. "Are you... serious?"
"Dead serious," you replied, leaning against the doorframe with a playful smile. "You need to relax, Dean. You've been running yourself ragged. So tonight, I'm making sure you take a break."
Dean opened his mouth to protest, but the tired lines around his eyes told you he was more tempted than he cared to admit. With a heavy sigh, he finally caved. "Fine. But only if you join me."
Your cheeks flushed, and you raised an eyebrow. "Is that so? You sure you're not too tired?"
Dean's smirk was back, a flicker of that familiar spark in his eyes. "For you? Never."
Before you could overthink it, Dean was already unbuttoning his flannel shirt, his gaze never leaving yours. Your heart skipped a beat as you watched him undress, the tension of the day slipping away with each discarded piece of clothing.
When he was down to just his boxers, he turned to you with a cocky grin. "Your turn, sweetheart."
You rolled your eyes but couldn't stop the smile tugging at your lips. "Alright, alright. Turn around, Winchester."
Dean obeyed, though you could feel his gaze lingering over his shoulder, making you giggle. You quickly stripped out of your clothes, and before you could change your mind, you slipped into the warm, bubbly water.
Dean turned back around, his eyes darkening as they took in the sight of you surrounded by bubbles. "Damn," he muttered under his breath, slipping into the tub beside you. "You really know how to spoil a guy, don't you?"
"Someone's gotta take care of you," you teased, grabbing a handful of bubbles and smushing them against his nose. "You certainly won't do it yourself."
Dean chuckled, the sound deep and rich, and for a moment, it felt like the world outside didn't exist. Here, in the steamy warmth of the bathroom, it was just the two of you.
You settled against his chest, the water lapping gently around you. Dean's strong arms wrapped around your waist, pulling you closer. He let out a deep sigh, his breath tickling the side of your neck.
"This is nice," he admitted, his voice a low rumble in your ear. "Better than whiskey. Can't believe I'm sayin' that."
You laughed softly, resting your head back against his shoulder. "I'm glad you're enjoying it. You deserve a break, Dean. You're always taking care of everyone else."
"Guess I got lucky," he whispered, his lips brushing against your temple. "'Cause I've got you to take care of me."
You turned in his arms, cupping his face with wet, soapy hands. "Always," you promised, leaning in to kiss him gently. The kiss was soft, lingering, a promise of more moments like this one—moments where he didn't have to be the hunter, the hero, or the protector. Just Dean.
Dean pulled back slightly, resting his forehead against yours. "Thanks, sweetheart. I mean it."
"Don't thank me yet," you teased, reaching for a sponge and pressing it into his hands. "You're on scrubbing duty."
He let out a groan but couldn't hide the smile tugging at his lips. "Fine, fine. But you better return the favor."
You laughed, feeling lighter than you had in days. In that moment, surrounded by bubbles, laughter, and Dean's warm embrace, you knew you'd made the right call. After all, even the toughest hunters need a little TLC sometimes.
And if you could be the one to give it to him, then you'd do it every single day.
