Day four: candy cane
Cas is sitting alone at one of the lunch tables when one of the ASB kids drops a candy gram in front of him. He stares at it for a moment before turning and trying to hand it back to the girl.
"This-this can't be for me." He hands it out for her to take and she looks at the tag then back at Cas.
"You're not Castiel? My friend said--she's in your science class..." She begins to take it back.
"No, no, I'm Castiel, but this can't be for me," he repeats.
The girl smiles at him. "Of course it can. It's the most magical time of the year, Castiel. Anything can happen." The girl walks off to deliver more candy canes and Cas takes a tentative look inside the tag.
To: Castiel
Home game tonight. You'll be in the stands? Early Christmas present in it for you.
He recognizes the handwriting almost immediately. The scraggly, slanted, rushed handwriting. A blush creeps onto his face and he instinctively searches the cafeteria for Dean. He's sitting with his basketball buddies of course. He was waiting for Cas to search for him and when he sees the slight tint to Cas's cheeks, he winks. The bell rings and Cas grabs his things, dropping a book in the process. Dean snatches it off the ground and places it in Cas's arms before walking out of the cafeteria with him.
"You're gonna be there, right, Cas? I need my good luck charm."
"Dean, I'm hardly a--"
"One night away from your books and homework won't do any harm."
"You've never missed a shot before, Dean, I don't think my presence will do much of a difference."
"C'mon, buddy."
Cas glances sideways at Dean.
"Early Christmas present, 'member?" Dean whispers before separating from Cas and rejoining his teammates. Cas lets out a sigh.
The apocalypse couldn't keep him from going to Dean's game.
