sire I shan’t trouble you long as I know you are still not feeling your best, but the knight who arrived to pledge his fealty not long past the last full moon was asking after you. it must be said, he did not seem to take much of a liking to our pale guest, who seems far better recovered than you, sire. in any case, he wished to know when you were well. frankly, I think it would be prudent to only take his company when you are indeed well……he does seem to carry the smell of dog with him where he goes. in the meantime I propose we task him with dealing with the wolves that have taken to the woods around your palace, as you have surely heard them howling in the nights of late. I must say, it is quite serendipitous to have such a character arrive right when a problem like this emerges……rest assured, sire, I will see to it that these matters are addressed ably in your stead.
as always, your steadfast and loyal advisor
My apologies if I sound at all uncouth in my reply - this illness will not leave me so easily, it seems, and I am out of sorts.
I have awoken at night to the sound of wolves - I had thought at first that they were some fever-delirium - and those mornings afterward I awaken feeling more rested, as though the wolves had chased away the sickness. Though I may miss their howls, please carry on with your proposal - it would not do for someone to be injured for the sake of my sleep. I will defer to your judgement on this matter, as I trust it more than my own, as of late.
I... am still wary of the news you provided to me in your last missive, dear advisor, and I fear my trust in our formerly-sick guest has eroded away. Perhaps... if our new guest's dislike of him is well-rooted, it may be worthwhile to ask after his reasoning. And... I would know your thoughts, if you would counsel me in this regard: I would like our new visitor stationed at my door at night after his return from the woods, alongside another guard. If it is true that our pale guest has entered my rooms without my knowledge... perhaps this new knight's intolerance for him would act as a deterrent..?
