Despite playing for a crowd that peaked at below 30 people,  Death By Unga Bunga brought the energy on Tuesday night at the DC9 nightclub. The Norwegian garage rockers played a fairly short set - maybe about an hour long - consisting mostly of songs from their latest EP, Fight!, and their 2016 album, Pineapple Pizza, to an empty feeling room in what is already a small venue to begin with. That being said, DBUB did everything they could to keep the enthusiasm up from walking into the crowd to playing the riff from "The Boys Are Back In Town" with their guitars and bass behind their backs. They also joked around with the crowd, yelling out, "We f-cked up," after one song, and, "We're the best band in the world, in case you didn't know," after the next. Musically, they were pretty tight and a ton of fun. They nailed their opening song, "I Can't Believe That We're Together," and ended the show by bowing and lip-syncing to "I Don't Want To Miss A Thing," which was a hilarious close to a mostly awkward night. I just had a hard time getting over the small and lackluster crowd, as I was the only one doing anything close to even resembling dancing. This was the first stop on their US tour, and I really hope they have better luck drawing larger and more lively crowds at their upcoming shows.
