But yeah. Don’t get me wrong, cultural appropriation can be a means of racism, but I feel like that’s the fault of someone being racist and diminishing people to a culture, not actually the act of cultural appropriation itself (like wearing a bindi and going “omg soooo hindu!! lol” is definitely different than someone wearing a bindi because they like the way it looks).
People shouldn’t have to justify why they like the aesthetics of something… they should have to justify why they think a certain people are reduced to an object.
The reactions to that shirt are by no means rational. So why should we try to equate cultural appropriation to it?
