Everybody hates capitalism until GW's legal department tells them to use a new copywriteable name for a faction instead of the one we've been using since the 80s.
One way that the Rogue Trader PC game has already disappointed me is in the lasgun sounds. 40K pc games never seem to get them right--Battle Sister fucked this up too. It's always "generic sci-fi laser sound #7", never the snap-CRACK described in the novels.
snap I just burned a pencil-sized hole through the air between my weapon and the target, CRACK oh there's the air rushing back in the hole because nature abhors a vacuum.
snap CRACK snap CRACK snap CRACK
snap CRACK
okay who brought the lascannon
Please, I'm begging y'all, say Eldar. Say Imperial Guard. Call the stormtroopers stormtroopers. You are not GW's legal department, you don't need to give a damn about copyright.
It's starting to really bug me how rare nonwhite people are in 40K art. The Emperor, Erda, Malcador, every space marine that isn't a Salamander or a White Scar...
I mean, this is not a new problem and I'm not just discovering it, but I've been browsing 40K art here on tumblr a lot lately and following 40K blogs, so it's sticking out to me a lot right now.
We know the Emperor was born in pre-Hittite Anatolia. He should definitely have some melanin. Erda, Malcador, other perpetuals, did they ALL come from northern Europe?
Back when I first got into 40K the Dark Angel minis had some kind of American Indian thing going on. That seems to have completely disappeared. Bring it back.
Ultramarines are Space Romans, well, the Roman Empire included large chunks of north Africa and western Asia.
Mordians may have an in-universe justification for being sickly-pale, but Cadians got sunlight, didn't they? And Sororitas and commissars and inquisitors must come from all kinds of planetary environments.
I'd just like to see some more diversity in 40K art, please.
