It's all because of the art director for both series, Ari Gibson. As far as my research tells, he worked for Blue Tongue Entertainment, the studio under THQ responsible for deBlob, before he went on to work for Team Cherry.
They seem drastically worlds apart, and tonally they are, but dB and HK aren't entirely too far from each other on the artistic genetic tree. Both series feature amorphous "critters" with big wide, blank eyes, somewhat animal traits and simple shapes as their protagonist. the cityscapes and worldbuilding, when drawn and described, are elaborate and fantastical. dB differs in being lighter, cartoonier and much more colourful, but it still shares the same core as HK in a surprising amount of points.
In a very silly creative sense, you could consider Blob the "older cousin" to the Knight and Hornet.
