Thinking about how Jack and Jackie died (because they end up as reborns sooooooo obviously it had to happen somehow lmao) and I think I figured out how <3 only drawing Jackie though cuz Jack's death was a bit more gruesome,, context below under the cut (also I tagged for as many triggers as I could think of so people can filter this out; if I missed anything I needed to tag please let me know!!)
Okay so basically what I figured for the backstory on how they ended up as Reborns is pretty much all because of their work!
So basically, the twins worked together at a lumber mill, though they worked different positions. Jack worked in the actual mill itself, since they grew up around a few different artificiers and were very interested in working with machinery. Jackie however is very much a horse girl, and got a position taking care of the two horses on the property (there was a small barn near the outskirts away from the machinery of course; the mill had horses to transport supplies to and from the mill and just figured it'd be easier to keep them close by instead of on a separate property)
Basically what happened that actually caused their death is that some machinery started going haywire when lightning struck the building and messed up a good chunk of the equipment. Jackie was on her way to her lunch break when she heard the commotion from people trying to get things under control, she came in and tried to help- but with the machines completely out of control, a very fast saw blade came loose and accidentally sliced Jackie's head clean off as it shot from the machine. Jack very obviously panicked and scrambled to get over to their sister, completely disregarding the clear safety hazards and protests from their coworkers, and got themselves caught in the machinery, and, only getting themselves more tangled as they struggled, got pulled in a decent ways and were effectively crushed from their torso downwards.
Obviously they're okay now, since their mom's been able to bring some of their older siblings back from the dead before, but yeah! That's why they have two different "styles" of reanimation; Jack had more severe injuries, hence why they're scarecrow-like now (salvaging what they can and replacing what they can't with straw and magic), and since Jackie's death was much quicker and cleaner she only needed a "connector" to keep her head on her body for the most part. Safe to say they no longer work at that lumber mill post-resurrection.
