A Curse So Dark and Lonely by Brigid Kemmerer My rating: 5 of 5 stars I expected nothing from this book. To be very honest, I even expected less than nothing because I was certain, for some dumb reason, that I would hate it going in. I have never EVER been so happy to have been so wrong in my life because, boy, did I love it. I will the criticism out first because I have only one: the characters could probably have been developed a touch more because at times I felt we were staying surface-level. However, keeping in mind this is a first volume in a series, there is clearly vast room to develop later. I hope the villain particularly will be a little more fleshed-out because she was probably the most cliché and cardboard with no real clear intentions and that's too bad because the other characters did a good job of defying expectations. I loved that Harper was the not the classic badass MC who's "so special" nor the damsel in distress type. I think Harper is actually a very believable character and I like that she didn't became summed up by her handicap, that it was showed throughout she was living with it, working with it and that it wasn't a real thing but that it didn't entirely define her either. I thought that point was very well handled because it's not brushed under the rug and you feel it's not just there for token representation. I loved Grey most of all I think but that's not surprising when you know my type of characters. I didn't see the twist coming and I'm eager to read more about all that in the sequel. I loved his friendship with Rhen, I loved his loyalty, I loved his respect for Harper... Rhen was a great cursed prince. He was a great prince, full point. I liked his development the most because I felt like he went a long way. This book was SO enjoyable! It made me want to cheer at times... Every time someone said "For the good of Emberfall" I wanted to reply "For the good of all". It's a very engaging book, very quick paced, very entertaining... It might be my favorite read of 2021 so far (sure we're only in January as I type this but... It counts!) View all my reviews
Hmm the urge to completely remake this account is very strong, as in delete account and remake everything from scratch. I mean I’m not too active on here but I don’t know I’m still thinking about it.
