I'm pretty sure I've made a decision. Pharmacy school is out- at least for the next three years. I'm going to go into Public Health: namely Epidemiology. Here's my reasoning: For the past two years, I've changed a lot. An adventurous side has developed that I've never had before (hence my impending trip to Peru). The idea of being a retail pharmacist is absolutely ghastly. I thought that hospital pharmacy would be an improvement. The idea of working in a hospital appeals to me. Again, I've changed. One year ago, not taking risks or being particularly important would have been fine. I didn't mind the thought of being on the sidelines, not directly involved in anything desperate, with a clock ticking. Now, however. Now, I want more. I want to be important, valuable, appreciated, needed. I want to immerse myself in my work. Therefore, hospital pharmacy just doesn't cut it. Then my classes seemed to all focus on Public Heath at the same time- about two months ago. It was fascinating. I've never even thought about working large scale before. I've never thought about being part of something more than just my community. I learned that pharmacists help run the National Stockpile of Medicine. Wouldn't that be fun to help oversee? I thought so. Until I realized that my goals for my career have changed so much- maybe pharmacy wasn't the right way to get what I want. I researched. I googled, read, and asked. I found Epidemiology. It's fascinating. I'd have a timeline, I'd help the entire nation- hell, the entire world. It'd have mystery (so much more exciting than mundane community pharmacy). I'd get to plan, use my imagination. I'd have connections. I'd learn so, so much. I'd be important. It's perfect.
