A Declaration Of Interdependence: Read An Excerpt Of Chuck Palahniuk’s Adjustment Day
As someone who’s influenced both culture and counter-culture, Chuck Palahniuk was already an author pop culture fans should be keeping an eye on, but when he started working in comics with Fight Club 2and producing adult coloring book-style collections of short stories and even a novella, all working with comics illustrators, comics readers became more aware that they should definitely follow his…

the spirit of independence - the resistance in front of illegitimate authorities and the forces that deprive people of their life, liberty and right to pursue happiness.
We the People
Another poem from Declaration of Interdependence:
WE THE PEOPLE There’s a crazy guy: Scares kids on our street kicks old dogs pours oil down the drain cusses loud about ... e-v-e-r-y-thing hates “wasting money” on schools And he has the right to vote. Then there’s me, just fifteen: I worry about war watch the 6 o’clock news raise money for the poor plant trees in the park But where’s my vote? Yesterday I filled out forms for Grandma, Mom, and Aunty Lin to get their ballots (absentee)— And next month, come election time, I won’t have a vote, no, I’ll have three: Grandma, Mom, Aunty Lin and me— We are We the People.
Political Poems for Children e-Book
Poet Janet Wong (www.janetwong.com) has written a new e-book for children and teens called DECLARATION OF INTERDEPENDENCE, a collection of 20 serious and silly poems about politics. These poems are designed to spur discussion in classrooms and libraries, with topics ranging from free speech, presidential debates, the 2-party system, voting, caucuses versus primaries, electoral math, red/blue/swing states, hanging chads, and more. Wong's political awareness didn't come until late in life; she says, "Asian parents don't teach their children to be politically active; in fact, they teach us NOT to be political--not to rock the boat, not to speak up, not to question. This needs to change. The nature of the conversation needn't be serious and heavy; even just joking about the election process is building political awareness." Janet's e-book is available at Amazon, BN.com, and in the iTunes bookstore. For the duration of this week, its "launch price" is just 99 cents. http://amzn.to/ybs3VT.
We agree that we all have a responsibility to ensure the good health of our planet which we are largely dependent on. We invite you take a few seconds to see if you also agree with the Declaration of Interdependence which was written for the 1992 UN Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro.
