Dear men from across the street,
I am not my body. When people approach me I would prefer if you just told me that you want to get to know me or take me out, not how you perceive me. I am my actions. There are a plethora of aspects that make me-me. And to hear a person say they want to get to know me because of how they perceive my body is.....folly. Also, it seems quite transactional. Why are you telling me your “positive” perception of my body? How will this serve you? Will it convince me to give you my number? Ask me about my day. And if I feel like it I’ll tell you. Ask me to tell you about myself. But for the love of black queer agender Jesus, please y’all.... stop telling me how cute you think I am. This body is just that-a body (that we aren’t gonna pretend like doesn’t have a certain amount of privilege because of my proximity to whiteness, because of my thinness and my able bodiedness. And if you haven’t unpacked your attractions to other people you should because they could engender violence or be a result of socialization.)
