Random Thought on Science Brothers in Comics

Comics!Tony is always supercool with stylish hair, mustache and goatee and and usually handsome.

Comics!Bruce ranges from skinny, tired, and pale to skinny and ripped and is either really dorky looking or a model or looks like death. Most of the time he has brown hair, but sometimes it’s blonde-brown or nearly black-brown or black. His hair is always different.

I guess Bruce’s image transforms more because his character is more nebulous and centered around physical transformation and with how he’s dealing with Hulk and the world? So people imagine him differently?

But Tony’s way of dealing is more internal and his bravado and confidence is his smokescreen so his want to be “Tony Stark the concept” bleeds theough artists depiction of him?

Lyanna Mormont is Amazing. She gets it from her mother...

If the boys are at war then who is left to defend their island? The men and women of Bear Island have fought raiding parties from the Free Folk and the Ironborn forever. Leave Bear Island, alone, there are she-bears and they’ll fight you.

Who is Diana?

She chooses to be Wonder Woman.She is part of DC’s Trinity for a reason.

Bruce chose and created Batman to rise up from tragedy,and powerlessness to dedicate his will and strength and intelligence, in the hopes that one day no other little child would lose their parents in such a senseless way. Batman emerges from the shadows to strike fear into the hearts of criminals, but also offer compassion. His villains are known for dealing with tragedy in a way that warped them. And he understands what that can do to a person.

Clark as a reporter and as Superman chooses to be a symbol of hope. Kind and strong and powerful. People aspire to be him.Superman is the light in the darkness. The hope of a better tomorrow. He has the burden of his Earth parents’ hardwork and sincere and loving values and their hopes. He has the destiny his Kryptonian father Jor-El bestowed upon him. Underneath it all,his heart and restraint is what makes him Superman not his powers.

Diana chose, too. She was moved by a purpose. It was not a personal tragedy that motivates her.She may not have known entirely what it would mean,but she knew her mission of love and compassion was important. And she chooses to rededicate herself. She fights to honor her mantle, but at her heart what she wants is for people to find the power within themselves. Symbols are important, grand actions are, too, but love is in smaller acts. Smaller actions made by many, in concert, is what creates true change.

She does not hate men. In the midst of injustice, her wrath can be terrifying. But most of the time she recognizes, like Bruce does, people can do terrible things,but like Clark, she believes people are capable of goodness and greatness. She wants people to tap into that power within themselves and work together.

Bruce cannot avenge every wrong. Clark cannot protect everyone. Not alone. And they don’t have to do so either.

Diana is Wonder Woman. She represents her people. She honors her gods. She is a princess. She can lead.She is a daughter.She can follow. She is a sister.She can work with others.She will try diplomacy, connection,appealing to humanity before she fights.When she wields a sword, lasso, or throws her fists, she will show mercy.

Strength without compassion, without love is what poisons the world with evil.

She is a searcher of truth. And the one who does not just hope for change, does not just bemoan the ugliness in the world.She will speak of difficulties, but with an aim to solve and work towards fulfilling those hopes and dreams and creating a better world.

She is full of wonder. She is the woman who delights in learning about other cultures. The one who wants to try every new food she comes across. She admires art. She doesn’t understand fashion but trusts the opinion of Etta and her friends. If she had time, she’d like to learn more about technology.

She finds humor in the differences between her life before and this one. She wants to learn all of the slang terms and languages she doesn’t understand.

She enjoys dancing. It’s like fighting and flying with her feet still on the ground.

Even if people see her mission and mantle first, she is…just Diana.

🔥Harry Potter

Unpopular opinion| Accepting

Naming your kids to honor other people isn’t that unusual. And I think it gets blown out of proportion.

Other points:

If you think Ginny didn’t have input as to what she named her own kids… Book Canon Ginny called people out when they were in the wrong. She cares fiercely. And people, Harry and Ginny respected each other. They were equals.

But back to the names:

James Sirius and Lily LunaJames and Lily. Brave. Kind. Self-sacrificing. Defied Voldie three times if I remember correctly. Remembered fondly by their friends.

James II is named after his grandfather and a childless, loyal, brave, man who was wrongly imprisoned. He tried his best Sirius may have had moments when he compared Harry to James, but most of his actions were of an adult protecting their godson. (Sirius mistaking Harry for James in his last fight was a movie thing. Heartbreaking to see, but not book canon.)

Lily II is named after her grandmother and Luna Lovegood. Luna who is not dead but is kind and resilient and loyal. Luna who didn’t have many friends at first, but was definitely and genuinely a brilliant one when given the chance. She survived imprisonment and befriended Ollivander. She helped lead the DA with Neville and Ginny under the Carrows. Luna who was too opened minded, but learned to temper it.

Albus Severus

Flawed, complicated, childless men who fought the ugly side of two wars, made difficult decisions, and sacrificed everything. No, they weren’t saints and sometimes had to be cruel.Two men Harry could’ve chosen NOT to forgive, but he did. And he chose to honor them.And seriously, Severus Albus as a name would be way worse.Al can avoid awkwardness by not mentioning his middle name.Do these names still carry the ghosts/burdens/ expectations with them? I'm sure they do. And I wonder if Ginny and Harry intentionally wanted their children to feel connected to the past. Before Harry came to Hogwarts he lacked that familial knowledge and connection. Ginny's side has the benefit of her brothers and Molly and Arthur and a rich, known, history. Some of it--being Ginny and Harry's son --would've been there regardless of their names. But Ginny and Harry know what it's like to feel scared, neglected, unsure as well as loved and cared for. I think they'd try their best to allow their children to be themselves. They'd do what they could to give them normal lives as long as possible. And to teach them to be strong enough to ask for help or fight for what they believe in.And they would be loved. Tl;dr The names aren't perfect but they're not /that/ bad.

Meta: Radio

Lee may have been a hilarious commentator, but his Potterwatch broadcasts were what made me want to RP him.

He couldn’t just let his gut feelings rule anymore. He had to gauge when it was apropriate to be funny or serious.He had to be level-headed when speaking about a housemate, Dean Thomas, being missing.

And the fact that Fred had to choose a codename because it was his first time on the air? Proof it wasn’t all laughs and giggles behind the scenes.

I don’t know if Lee’s voice would’ve been recognizable or well-known when Potterwatch started. It definitely would’ve been afterwords if it was the ONLY source besides The Quibbler telling the truth.

And if it was, it’s more than likely there would’ve been a bounty if not on his head by name, then by his alias River.

The movies may have made him invisible and while I agree Rowling could’ve done better with people of color and other issues, I have to give her credit for making the voice of the rebellion a black man.

People talk about how great it would’ve been if Hermione was canonically POC and seen speaking out about issues.

But Rowling did have a POC (two if you remember Kingsley Shacklebolt, future prime minister) /member of an underrepresented group commenting on oppression. And it was Lee Jordan.

Lydia Martin in Season 4 (So far...) Spoilers for 4x08 Time of Death

I wonder if Lydia wasn't there not because they didn't tell her, but because they are acknowledging she needs space. She said it herself, she needs to figure out something.

Lydia's mom mentions she's gone off to her grandmother's house in the middle of the week. Lydia is choosing to explore this important aspect of herself.

And think about it, they've all seen death, but Lydia has been the 'first on the scene' in many cases.Do you think Lydia would even WANT to see a seemingly dead Scott? All of them have enough nightmares.

And yes, while Lydia may not have had much screen time we've been learning important details about where her powers come from. Banshees can predict death, find death, and sense when something is wrong such as when Derek was de-aged. (Though, now I think Lydia was actually detecting Derek's loss of power. Power is energy and energy is life. Thus, losing energy is similar to losing life.)

I miss Lydia in group scenes, too. I hope we do get more of them, but with multiple story-lines I think the division of characters and location is necessary. I've talked a little about how the other characters' treatment of Lydia is all influenced by the mourning period everyone is experiencing.

And from a character development perspective, I think Lydia needs a little distance, too. Lydia loved Jackson. Lydia cared for Aiden.She loved Allison as her best friend. Lydia lost all of them.Now, she's lost Meredith, the only other banshee she's met.  She's sick of it. She told Kira she doesn't have fangs and claws she has this thing because she wants to help.She needs to understand how her powers work.

People have talked about Scott and Chris Argent honoring Allison's code. There's no doubt in my mind that Lydia wants to honor it, too. Lydia may be resigned about her role,but she is trying her best to make the most of it. And unfortunately, she's doing it alone because there isn't someone teaching her to be a banshee.

That said, I don't think she is truly alone. No one is forgetting about Lydia Stiles still cares about her even if he's in love with Malia now. The more recent moments he's had with her show he still cares. Kira has asked where Lydia is on multiple occasions. The last time was the last episode, Weaponized. I will point out Stiles is the one who knew (if I remember correctly) Lydia had already taken the PSATs. That's perfectly in character. 

Parrish understood Meredith meant something to Lydia. Lydia's mom followed her to the lake house because she cares. (And it had to be her for Lydia's plot development purposes.) Our lovely Banshee is not alone. Lydia Martin is an independent and interdependent woman. She's doing what she believes she needs to do. She's doing it for herself and for her pack. And for her best friend.

How Scott Grieves (Minor Spoilers for Teen Wolf 4x07 Weaponized)

In Weaponized,Scott states he wants to get into a good college. I wonder if he was thinking about Allison. The last significant mention of college I can remember was between them.

Scott encouraged Malia to think pass high school. He's making plans and he wants to live. This is how he respects Allison's sacrifice and all those they lost.

 I'm not sure if Allison ever told Scott the new code, but even if she didn't protecting the people they love and those who are less able to protect themselves is what they tried to do in action. Allison explicitly stated on her last night she was there for Lydia. Scott was there for Stiles. Lydia and Stiles weren't the ones with arrows and claws. 

If Allison was alive--scratch that--Allison as anything, alive, ghost, watching from where ever Teen Wolf believes people go-- she would want Scott to live his life. For Scott, it isn't enough to survive and breathe. Truly living means being a teenager when he can and continuing Allison's legacy of protecting those who cannot protect themselves.

That's why I don't have a problem with Scott and Kira. They're taking it slow. That's a good thing. Scott's way of grieving from what we've seen is to focus on the present, on living.

 Scira wouldn't exist without Scallison. Allison and Scott found out what they were willing to fight for. Scott gained confidence. Allison realized it was okay to be vulnerable. They made each other better people. They saw what was extraordinary within themselves and each other. And more importantly, they respected each other's choices. Scott respected Allison's choice to break up.  

He was willing to give her time. And even if he could've done a better job respecting Issac during that inbetween period, his focus remained on upholding  Allison's code.

Scira is different. It has to be-- Scott isn't the same person he was when he met Allison.It's slower and less sure, but it's good.Scott and Kira make each other smile. They're awkward, sweet, fledgling ducks when they're together.They can be themselves. They can be high schoolers. And they've both proved they're willing to fight for each other.

I want to learn more about Kira as a person separate from her relationship with Scott. Of course, I do.For now, I can learn about her and different aspects they bring out in each other. And I hope that whatever happens between them they will have the chance to grow and become better versions of themselves.
