✶ ─ WIP WEDNESDAY
thank you so much for the tag, @deejadabbles! 🥺🫶
so, i've mentioned in a recent ask (for the fanfic ask game) that there are two projects i am excited to work on and post soon, one of them being pearls and daggers, which is an "enemies to lovers" jigen/reader or oc fic!
i've been working on it, mainly working on the protagonist's backstory, but i hope to release it soon!
as such, here is a preview of the first chapter!
The sound of a piano and a saxophone reverberate in the air. It is as if, no matter what physical obstacles stand in the air, nothing can truly hold back the power of music, let alone jazz. It is a universal language, after all — magical and innocent, as one might say — used to convey feelings and states of being. The melody draws the attention of outlanders, whose mouths might curl, painting a smile upon their faces, as well as pulling on the strings of their hearts. For a moment, there may be envy, as they wished they could be amongst the crowd of the towering building in the distance, surrounded by colorful and graceful gardens, glowing in the horizon like a rising star. That is the power of luxury and wealth, however. It is twisted and tragic, really, but that, too, is part of human nature. To create and destroy, even by their own hands. To receive the attention of lower beings, such as moths being attracted to light. Nevertheless, not every moth is really there just to admire the light; some are there to drain that radiance, take it for themselves and ponder about the weight of that sin by their lonesome. Vice — beautiful, sensuous vice — is such a tainted, human trait; you can hardly be a real human being unless sin hasn’t painted the canvas of your soul. It is for that crime, the theft of that wealth, that brings them there. The target is a simple one — at least, that’s what they figured. They aren’t used to the whole ordeal of theft and heists, since their expertise has always been assassination. But, nowadays, any type of job is accepted, to keep the boat afloat. Times are changing, too. They are changing. It has been years since they first became an assassin, anger flowing through their veins and charging for the target’s neck like an hungry animal, and they have begun to grow from who they used to be. At least, that is how they feel about themselves — even though, deep down, that anger never vanished. For now, the thrill of stealing a valuable artifact would seal those feelings away. They had taken their time to research the property and the owner. William Price is the illegitimate son of Adelbert Kardos, leader of one of the most infamous Hungarian mafia groups. William had been born from an affair with a maid, behind the wife’s back. When the pregnancy was discovered, Mary Price was forced to flee back to England, meant to start her life all over again with a child from a man she thought cared for her. Fueled by vengeance and hatred, Mary taught her little Will all she knew about the Underground based on the information she had gathered from her long years under the Kardos Estate. Mary was absolutely convinced that Adelbert’s fortune belonged to her, and she would do all in her power to ensure that William would take his spot as the leader. And now, there she is — living in the Kardos (now Price) Estate the life she had always dreamed of, the life she had fought so hard to achieve through her poor child. Adelbert was assassinated five years prior, under the orders of William Price himself, and now the mafia group belonged to them. Nora Kardos’ wedding gift belongs to them, too. Everything that used to belong to the wife is also part of Mary Price’s collection. There isn’t a clear reason why, in the last few months, she had become so obsessed with Nora’s belongings, especially those that were gifted or made especially for her during her time with Adelbert. However, it certainly displeases Nora, who, despite agreeing to keeping her distance and not interfering with William Price’s ascension, feels as if their part of the deal is being dishonored. As far as she is concerned, those are hers and have nothing to do with Kardos himself. At first, upon hearing this story, the criminal was convinced that Nora Kardos had contacted them with the intention of killing William Price [...]. Yet, maybe she wants to be the “bigger person” — avoiding spilling any unnecessary blood (or at least, blood she deems distasteful) — and that is where the assassin finds themself now. Out of their habitat.

note: i had to shorten the last paragraph because, for some reason, one particular part seemed to not let tumblr post/save the draft??? either way, it's not too important so i don't mind.
