On black friday I bought Clip studio paint and a XP pen small artist pro tablet. CSP is pretty intuitive, the tablet is working great for me as well!
All my previous digital art posted here (besides the 60s vocaloid one) was done on Ibis Paint X on either an Ipad (not pro) or my Iphone 11 pro with a stylus. It’s definitely possible to make great art with free programs and tech you may already own.
I’m really glad I switched over to CSP though! Many assets on the CSP asset store are made by other artists and are free or pretty cheap to buy. Like Ibis paint, there are materials and backgrounds you can use but CSP has more and higher quality. There are even 3D models of poseable figures, props, furniture too.
For about a year before using Ibis paint I used Adobe illustrator with a mouse and the pen tool to draw. There are pros and cons to that as well. I still have the adobe suite and use premiere pro, photoshop, and indesign still. My approach to digital art is changing and moving away from my traditional art approach. Most of my digital art is sketch > lines > flats > shading. I’m trying to do digital painting too.
I might open commissions soon! After I get a better handle on my studies.
