12 Days of the Wanted Christmas - Day 4
SPLAT!
Dee shrieked and wiped the snow off of her face.
“JAY!!!!!!!” she screamed, diving back into her car for cover.
She’d just gotten home from spending a week away. Seconds after getting out of her car, she had been pelted with a massive snowball. It had snowed at least a foot the night before.
“Welcome home, baby!” he yelled, throwing another snowball that hit the still-open door, causing it to break up into pieces that flew into the car.
She screamed again and dove for cover but was still pelted with snow. She got up, brushed the snow out of her hair, and decided that this was war.
She hopped out of the car, still hiding behind the door. She reached down and packed a thick bunch of snow together. She quickly darted out from behind the door and whipped the snowball at him, watching with content as it sailed through the air and hit him in the face. She laughed as he tried to get the snow out of his hair.
She wasn’t laughing anymore when he started running towards her. She slammed the door shut and took off across the front yard.
At this point, neighbors started noticing. The elderly couple across the street had opened their front door to watch and laugh at the young pair.
Dee ran as fast as she could but she wasn’t fast enough to get away. Gently, so as not to actually hurt her, Jay grabbed her around her waist and pulled her to the ground.
She tried to get back on her feet but Jay was on top of her in two seconds flat. She glared up at him but he could see the smile forming on her lips.
“Welcome home, baby,” he repeated, quieter this time. He looked down at her, saw how her hair was spread out in the snow, how her nose was bright red. “You’re beautiful.”
She blushed and turned away but he leaned down and kissed her lips.
“I missed you,” she said as she broke away.
“I missed you too. I’m so happy you’re home.”
He saw that she was shivering and realized how cold the snow was around them. He got up quickly and pulled her with him. He held her in his arms as he walked her towards the house.
“Get inside, get out of those clothes, put on some sweats, and go sit in front of the fire. I’ll go grab your bags from the car,” he said, opening the door and pushing her gently into the house. She leaned out to kiss him one more time before heading inside and up the stairs.
She pulled off her shirt and got out of her jeans, looking through her closet. She pulled out a pair of old sweats and one of Jay’s t-shirts. She grabbed a pair of warm socks and headed back downstairs.
She sat down on the floor in front of the fireplace, sticking her feet out to warm them up. She sat there, looking up at the Christmas tree in her living room. She had allowed Jay to decorate it while they were gone and he had done a decent job. There were still some ornaments that he hadn’t put up, probably because he had given up halfway through.
He sat down next to her and she smiled, leaning over to rest her head on his shoulder.
“Welcome home, baby. I love you.”
