texas 1994.
somewhere in deep ellum
Well, this takes me back. There really aren't words to describe what Lizard Lounge was like in the 90s. There were lots of clubs in the Deep Ellum part of Dallas back then, but everyone went to Lizard Lounge. I remember feeling like it really was the end of an era when it closed during the pandemic.
Deep Ellum, Dallas, TX, 30 October 1997
Mural by Malcolm Byers (Instagram) for Barrington Gifts in Deep Ellum, Dallas, Texas, after this image by photographer Gray Malin.
A little snippet of today's playlist. Back in Dallas, TX I used to see Corn Mo around Deep Ellum and up in Denton. I mean, just chillin'. Sometimes he had his accordion with him because he was going to do a show or busking or something but that was back in the late 90s to around 2003. I was also in a band with some friends in high school (we covered Ana Ng of course). We did only one actual gig but our drummer did go on to play with some other band who opened up for Corn Mo. So that's my little story.
I have another story that comes from my current research. That sign was not there; I've never seen it before. I guess Deep Ellum is way different than it used to be in the late 90s / early 00s. I didn't see the address of this sign but I'm pretty sure I recognized where it was from the photo. It seems to be right outside of the (closed down) Lizard Lounge aka The Church on Thursdays and Sundays. But I'm not positive; I haven't been in texas since 2010. But I went to The Church religiously. OMG THEY"RE TALKING ABOUT IT RIGHT NOW ON THE CONCERT I'M PLAYING!
JF: This first song; this very difficult song... to play
JL: ...at all and even when we get it right it sorta almost doesn't even seem worth it somehow.
... a little bit of practice / key stuff /etc. "Tell" in G
JL: This is the part that is worth it though is; the behind the scenes. What is the process? How does it all come together?
JF: So this song is about a club in Dallas, TX in this like, cripplingly strange part of town called Deep Ellum. And the venue is called Trees and it's unrelated to anything about the venue.
The actual name of this song is Dallas but I guess this is tagged wrong.
The venue is called Trees for those artificial "trees" that are inside the venue. Maybe they're real tree trunks but they're not alive. I don't remember.
That last photo is from 1996 ♥
Ok, this got out of hand. Coffee time.
Had an spectacular time in Ravefurrest @ Dallas!!1!1!!!
